only for locals apparently 8/2/2007

My husband and I usually have great experiences at restaurants, and we figure it is because we are gracious, patient, and tip generously. So, it was much to my chagrin when I was completely ignored by the seemingly friendly staff for fifteen minutes when sitting at the counter, while meantime, a local came up the counter, sat down next to me, and was handed a fresh cup of coffee immediately. This is the point that I finally gave up and left. There are many places with excellent food in santa fe, and this place was just not worth the wait, unless you are a local, which is not fair, because this town survives because of its tourism. Pros: great-looking menu Cons: terrible service more

Down home food 4/11/2007

It's tough getting seated, since there is always a wait unless you want to sit at the counter. My sister and I sat at the counter and it took a few minutes before we were waited on. The service was friendly once they got to you. it was very crowded and tight quarters. We had an excellent lunch of some traditional Mexican fare (chicken mole stew) with large portions. I would recommend getting in line for a seat before you're hungry! Pros: Food Cons: Tight quarters, very bustling atmosphere more

Great for Breakfast! 9/12/2005

Enjoyed breakfast here on a recent trip to Santa Fe. Sat at the counter and had delicouse huevos rancheros, which I tried to recreate at home and just weren't the same. Expect to wait on a Sunday morning as the entire Plaza area was bustling. Staff was cheerful and attentive. Pros: Food, Location Cons: Wait more

 •
The Plaza Café, Santa Fe's oldest restaurant, has been serving highly acclaimed, authentic traditional dishes since 1918. In 1947, Dionysi Razatos, a Greek immigrant with an American dream, took over the Plaza Café and his family has been feeding Santa Fe ever since. Danny (his Americanized name) married a local girl named Beneranda and together they ran the Plaza and raised six children. As their children grew they all worked at the Plaza and helped to create what the restaurant is today.
The Razatos family kept the traditional cooking methods and flavor combinations of New Mexico and added some recipes from Greece, all the while keeping with the classic American diner experience. This is why you'll find everything from blue corn green chile carne asada enchiladas with a warm pillowy sopaipilla to chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and moussaka with a Greek salad on the side.
.
