Kudoes to the Management 1/20/2011

Just found this review---and good for the manager. Personally, I get tired of paying for meals that are made unenjoyable by undisciplined children. When my kids were small, they were told to behave themselves when we were out. If they didn't, we left, because I didn't feel like I or my children were entitled to ruin someone's else's day with poor manners. Unfortunately, this is no longer true with the majority of parents these days. All I can say is that now my kids are teenagers and while they might be unbearable while at home, I am consistently complimented on how personable and mannerly my kids are out in public, which is all I ask. I've got a feeling cjsmith is going to have her hands full in a few years. As for the staff at OPH, I have never been treated with less than courtesy and promptness. The restaurant is always clean and the food is very good, if a bit on the pricey side. So all in all, I WILL continue to be a customer of OPH for the quality of food and service and because it's nice to know there is at least one restaurant in town where the management is willing to stand up to childish tyrants! more

RUDE TO MY 7 MONTH OLD 7/13/2010

I frequent this restaurant quite often and I am normally satisfied. The service has always been okay but the food always pleased me so it kept me returning. However, today was my very last visit. My 7 month old daughter has just discovered she can make noises. She was not crying but babbling and every so often let out a baby scream. The manager came over and told me my baby was being too loud. As if I should put my hand over her mouth and quite her. SHE IS A BABY. I thought this was a family restaurant? I proceed to get up from my meal and the heartless manager still made me pay for my meal. She not only disrespected me in front of my family and friends but she embarrassed me. I believe word of mouth is the best advertisement and I plan to use it on this business. The owner was supposed to call me and I still haven't heard from him. This is the problem with privately owned businesses. They do not have any bosses above them so they could care less if they lose a customer. I plan on sending everyone I know to the Golden Nugget! Which is cheaper and delicious! I am a stylist in the area of this establishment so when people ask me (as they often do) where are good places for food I will look forward to spreading the word on this company. Pros: some select items on menu are good Cons: terrible service more

I wish I found out about this place years ago 6/7/2010

I've lived in Dayton for the last fifteen years and just found out about this place a few months ago. Since then, I've been back every weekend and a few times during the week -- Wow! The Original Pancake House is not just another breakfast, it's a gourmet breakfast at popular prices. The food isn't cheap, but it's a great value for what you get. The portions are huge, everything is made from scratch and it shows - the strawberries are fresh cut, the orange juice is squeezed on premises, and the homemade whipped cream is to die for. The crepes, waffles, and Omelets are fantastic. Instead of the usual flat omelets served elsewhere, these are oven baked and are more like an egg souffle (all six eggs of them!). If you want something special, try the Cherry Kijafa Crepes (made with tart cherries in a wonderful sauce) or the Apple Pancake (hard to describe, you'll just have to order it). Even the eggs and bacon are better! The servers tell me all of the eggs are cooked in clarified butter (used by all of the best chefs) and bacon is sugar cured and thick sliced (the best I've ever had by far). Do yourself a favor - check this place out! Pros: Food Quality, Cleanliness, Service, Atmosphere more

Worst Experience in a restaurant in 40 years! 5/27/2010

Furious! Don't complain about your bill they will threaten to call the police on you! - May 27, 2010 Terrible Rude Service. The food is NEVER cooked right! Over priced! But this latest one you won't believe... Ordered the 2 eggs over medium, bacon, 3 pancakes. My daughter in law ordered 1 bagel w/cream cheese, 4 year old grandson 2 eggs over medium w/whole wheat toast. I didn't want pancakes and tried to get 1 instead of 3 to give to the 4 year old. Nope they wouldn't budge on that... Okay the food comes.. My eggs are hard not medium, sent back 2nd time egg white RUNNY, 3rd time eggs hard as a hockey puck, I say never mind I will eat later take it off my bill. They are not happy waitress very rude. The bill for me not eating, daughter in law with her bagel, grandson with 2 eggs, toast is $18.74 I say wait a minute what in the world is wrong with this picture... I could buy 6 dozen eggs and you are charging me that for 2 eggs toast a bagel and juice. RIDICULOUS! She says your grandson ate some of the pancake we are charging for that. I say as did his mother... he took ONE bite of my pancake and said it was COLD and yuky. they go in the back and reconstruct the pancake to see how much of it he ate! You are kidding me! She comes back and says I am charging you 3.30 for the pancake. I tell her fine I will pay your ridiculous bill but I am going to tell every person I see what you people did to me and it will cost you way more than 3.30 you might want to reconsider. She says no its company policy. I pay her the 18.74 and tell her okay and I paid her. I go outside and a couple of people are on the way in, I tell them what they did to me and they said good lord and they asked how to get to another breakfast place. I told them directions to a real breakfast place. Then the lady inside tells me we are calling the police you can't do that... I said let me call them for you! I called the police and told them I was being wrongly charged for food I could not eat and I wanted to press charges. The police came and I told them the whole story. They went inside and came back out with my $3.30 it should have been the whole 18.74 what a rip off. The owner told the waitress to give me my money back. I asked the nice police officer if it was against the law to tell people that they were a horrible restaurant and that they over charge people and are rude and mean. He said no it's not but he asked me not to do it in their parking lot. Although it is not illegal to do so ""they don't own the parking lot"" I could stand there all day every day and tell people what a crappy horrible excuse for a restaurant that place is. I could do that to save people money, frustration and high blood pressure. But hey it's a lot easier to just do it here on there web site! My recommendation is DON'T EAT AT A PLACE THAT DOESN'T CARE WHAT YOUR FOOD LOOKS LIKE, TASTE LIKE AND THEN THEY ARE RUDE MEAN AND THREATEN TO CALL THE POLICE ON YOU WHEN YOU DISAGREE WITH THE OUTCOME. THEY SHOULD HAVE APOLOGIZED TO ME AND MY FAMILY AND NOT GIVEN ME A BILL AT ALL! Cons: Expensive, lousy food, rude waitress/hostess idiot manager more

Poor service 1/11/2010

Rude service- very strict policy about all members of party being present before seating- when asked about thru the week special informed that I can order it if I can tell what it is- but they can't tell me what is in it- very impatient-- all and we haven't even received our food yet! There are plenty of other breakfast restaurants in the area- this was very disappointing! more

great blueberry pancakes and damn fine coffee 5/31/2009

The blueberry pancakes were wonderful. The coffee was very smooth. The bacon was nice & thick & crisp! The service was the best I've ever had. I had a great morning there. One of the best breakfasts I've had in a long, long time! Pros: excellent service and good food Cons: with trees out front could it could be easily missed more

Great for breakfast! 4/9/2006

Although we often wait for awhile to be seated during peak times, my family has always found the food here fresh and delicious. The portions are gigantic, so those with smaller appetites may wish to share. more

Poor Service 9/2/2005

This is one of the worst places that its ever been my displeasure to dine at the service was pitiful and the cashier was so caught up in her own little problems to notice the five people waiting to pay for their meals. more
