This Little Gym location recently opened on Highland Knolls near the Grand Parkway. It is a new, clean facility located in a small shopping center. It is owned by the same people who run the location on Memorial near Dairy Ashford.
My 4 year old daughter recently tried a gymnastics class there and thoroughly enjoyed it. I have to say it was the biggest smile I have seen on her in quite a while. The class is labeled as "gymnastics," but I would describe it more as music and movement than a serious gymnastics class. A previous reviewer commented on this as well. I think it is perfect for the toddler and preschool age group when you are really just trying to give them something fun to do in a group setting. They offer classes for older kids, but I can't imagine these would be very challenging for them. I will be happy if my daughter learns balance from walking on the balance beam, coordination and strength from the bars and jumping, and maybe how to perfect her forward roll! And the best result from these classes will just be more confidence and a good time.
The class is taught by 1-2 enthusiastic young ladies, and it starts with some "circle" time to describe the day's class and move to some music. The class is then broken up into groups to go to stations for practice on the equipment. The teacher works with the kids on the equipment, and then they are supposed to try other moves after their turn. My only complaint is that my daughter didn't know how to do these other things yet, so she was kind of standing around when it wasn't her turn.
We ended up signing her up for a few of their summer "camp" activities. This is a 3 hour block of time with a theme, such as space, cheerleading, or safari. It includes gymnastics, a craft, a snack, and free play time. If she enjoys these, we might sign up for their new "Dance the Little Gym Way" class that starts in August. It includes dance and gymnastics for preschoolers.
