Beer and more Beer 4/22/2010

Extensive beer selection and not just your usual Miller and Bud. They serve a worldly selection. The restaurant/bar is always busy and quite loud. The food is very good and you won't be disappointed. more

My go-to restaurant 7/30/2007

No matter the time of day or year, Firkin feels like the right place to be. It's cozy and funky decor are welcoming, and the staff is friendly. Along with a huge beer list, Firkin offers food that has never disappointed us in the many times we have eaten there. The goat cheese appetizer and warmed goat cheese salad are so good, my husband and I order them every time. Not to say we haven't sampled much off of the menu. The wahoo tacos are great, and my husband's favorite part about the steak tacos is that they come with fries (yay!). We take our kids sometimes, and while there isn't a menu for them, the staff is kind enough to split their entrees onto two plates, and make them feel welcome. The only downer about this restaurant is there isn't enough seats! GO! Pros: beer list, goat cheese!, seasonal decorations especially funky Christmas, live music Cons: not enough seating---make it bigger! more

Great music, great food, great beer 7/1/2007

Everytime I go the Firkin I am always surprised with something new. Whether it is a new beer, a new food special or the ever changing decor, the Firkin does not disappoint! The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and easy going. This is the spot to relax with friends, grab a beer and hear great live music. Pros: seasonal beers/specials, live music more

Beer mecca with amazing food! 12/7/2006

My girlfriend and stopped in here one evening on a tip from a friend who loves beers. They had over 25 on tap and really rare ones like Samichlaus (they're like one of only 20 bars in the U.S.!) and Czecvar. We sat at the bar and the bartender was really knowledgeable and friendly. His food suggestions were right on. It's so nice to find a place that has awesome beers without crappy pub food. Fried asparagus and the pasta was killer. If you live in Lake County and haven't been here there's something wrong with you! Oh, no Budweiser or crappy Corona, that was also nice to see. GO here! Pros: Amazing food and beers, great decor, good date place Cons: Not big enough, no place for coats more

mmm.. beer.. 10/28/2006

This is the best bar outside Chicago! They had over 28 beers on draft, and not that Bud, Amstel, MGD crap, but real beer! The food we had was amazing compared to the boring crap bar food offered from other bars. The bartender seemed to know quite a bit about beer and had no problem even talking vinatges. Now THATS a beer bar! They had Dogfish Head 90 on tap (only 1 out of 2 bars in Illinois) and an aged Belgium Lambic which is super rare. If you like beer and haven't been here, then you don't like beer. PROS: Best beer in Lake County CONS: Not open late enough more

Like beer ...GO here 11/2/2005

Great selection of beer, fun atmosphere, and always a crowd. Food selection is great however food quality can really vary from visit to visit. Worth a stop. more
