not for amatuers 6/26/2002

the blue room keeps your glass full. this is not a dance club, it is not a rave bar, or some trendy hollywood hangout, its for drinking. the barmaids are cheerful and they know when your glass is getting low. i thought that since this place was in the bowling shirt capitol of the world i would enter a place that was more worried about the decor and image than anything else, not the case. when it comes to drinking the blue room does not play. Pros: drinks, attentive barmaids Cons: none more

Perfect Dive Bar 6/19/2002

The Blue Room is an ideal place to relax with a group of friends. Snag one of the few round blue booths or belly up to the bar. The crowd ranges in age between 21 and 60-something. Busy nights are Thursday-Saturday. Play the jukebox or throw darts. If you're a smoker, then you'll be in good company outside on the patio. If someone wants to buy you a drink, but you've yet to finish your current beverage, just ask for a chip. That way you can cash in when you're ready. The only thing missing here is a pool table. They've talked about putting one in but the expansion would change their license, which is always a hugh bureaucratic mess. There is a small parking lot for the Blue Room, but if it's full then you'll have to look for parking on the street in front or in the neighborhood. Pros: strong drinks, friendly people, no pretension Cons: small parking lot, too crowded fri/sat more

Great any time of day/week 6/1/2002

In the last 3 months I've dropped into this bar about 5 times during the week after work and hit either Friday night or Sat night 3 to 4 times a month. Mid week it's an older crowd 30's to mid 40's and weekends it's 21 to mid thirties. I have always met cool people. Your made welcome by the staff. There is no "Attitude" with the patrons. This is a great "Having a good time place." There is a Smoking patio with neat secluded spots. The drinks are cheap, ($2-$3 beer, $4-$7 mixed drinks) if you tip at all they will always be strong. There are singles here, best just be cool make a friend and get a number. This is not a great pick up joint. Due to the number of people jammin the place you don't always get your drinks right a way. Pros: Inexpensive, Smoking patio, Strong drinks Cons: Skimpy close parking, Small max capacity, No beer on tap more

Great Watering Hole!! 5/21/2002

I love this place! Good mix of people, not your typical LA pretentious crowd. Great place to go to after work or to wind down from a night out! Pros: Strong Drinks more

Strong Strong Strong Drinks 5/21/2002

Yep, the drinks will definitely add some hair to your chest and they're a little below average in price. Great atmosphere for friends to gather or a nice after dinner drink with your man or woman. No plastic accepted, so make sure you either hit an ATM or have a friend who can spot ya. Yes, this is a pick up bar, and I've heard some of the best pickup lines around. So definitely go if you want to meet someone. Oh, and don't mess with the bartenders...know what you're gonna order and make it quick, these ladies have been here a while, and know what they're doing. Pros: Strong Drinks, Great Atmosphere Cons: No Credit Cards more

Editorial
  • The Scene
Behind a corrugated-steel entrance lies a room where little has changed since the 1950s. Bobby Darin is on the jukebox, affable guys are slinging drinks at the sleek, dark bar while amorous couples look hep in turquoise booths. The interior is so comfortable, the staff so welcoming and the drinks so cheap that one can't help but wondering if a time travel experiment has taken place. Even the bathrooms are spotless works of interior design. Modern realities become apparent out on the long patio, though, which caters to smokers.

    The Draw
The place has a rep for studio execs, but the regulars are a crop of gregarious, skilled professionals. Come after work and throw back a bottle of American beer. On Saturday nights, when the joint jumps, wow the crowd with a flaming beverage. Small and swank, the Blue Room is a true gem.
