very dry meat 9/19/2002

a few friends and i decided to try it out, what a disappointment ,we all ordered the sampler plate with chicken, ribs and sliced beef , the meat was dry and the ribs had no flavor at all , ( shouldn't good ribs have some flavor without having to dip them in a sauce??)every piece of meat was dry and no one bothered tocome back to ask how things were, tater totswere good (all 3) the bread was good...the tv ads make the food look good...how wrong those ads are... we spent over $75 on dinner and ended up taking the meat home to give to my dogs( they liked it) I ended the evening apologizing to my friends for recommending this place...i would never go back to THE BEAR PIT...unless i have a hackering for over priced dry meat.... best thing about this place was the beautiful tall blond hostess... Pros: the pretty hostess, the bread, tater tots Cons: the dry meat, over priced, old and dumpy more

Friendly Place - Average Food 9/14/2002

BBQ Half Chicken Dinner and Full Rack of BBQ Baby Back Ribs is what this review pertains to. BBQ sauce was average. Ribs were tender, but not very flavorful. BBQ baked beans which came with the meal were good, but there were only about 4 tablespoons full. BBQ chicken was average, as well. This place may be a landmark, but I've had far superior chicken and ribs at Woodranch BBQ or even Hamburger Hamlet (ribs). These two dinner items came to $29.71 ($17.50 - Ribs, $9.75 - Chicken) Pros: Casual, Friendly, Large Parking Lot Cons: Not Cheap more

A family delight for over 45 years. My parents and 6 brothers and sisters say it is our ""favorite"". The best is the lamb garlic toast sandwich with double bar b que beans, hmm. Menu and quality has not changed all those years. Please go for it! Pros: tender, quailty, fast service more

OK BBQ 7/30/2002

I have never tried their sandwichs and now feel like I have missed the boat after reading the previous posts. Thus far we have sampled their BBQ combo plates, and frankly were somewhat disappointed. The portions are very small, the cost seems high for what you get and the taste of their offerings although OK are nothing to write home about. Maybe I'm spoiled after sampling great BBQ in KC. Cons: Small portions more
