Is it the best? 1/24/2011

It may be the best for the local Oakies of OKC, but I have eaten much better Mexican food while incarcerated in a federal prison in Lompoc, CA. Seriously. more

Is Ted's the Best? ahhhhh - Maybe 11/25/2010

My family dined on a week day in the early afternoon. We went to Ted's based on a recommendation from a friend who said it was the best Mexican food to be had in Oklahoma. It was a busy place and quite noisy - not a place to have a pleasant conversation with friends or family. The service was outstanding and though the tables were close, there was still plenty of room to get around. Our group had a variety of dishes including both beef and chicken. The serving sizes were just right - nobody cleaned their plate and we did take home doggie bags. After being seated we were given bowls of salsa and queso cheese dip. Unlike other restaurants we were each given our own bowls and so did not need to share - double dipping anyone?. Along with the dips we were served a free bowl of pickled veggies - very tasty and not too hot. We also had to containers of hot flour tortilla's that were very tasty. The queso had a distinct flavor that I could not place at first. It was tasty, unlike many of the watered down sickly yellow looking stuff that you get from most Mexican restaurants in Oklahoma. The salsa was very good. We asked for and got some hot salsa - most green, hot salsa served in other restaurants are hot but without taste. This stuff had both tast and heat. The servers kept the chips and dips coming without our having to ask. We found the distinct flavor of the queso cheese dip was also in the rice, chicken and beef entrees but it stronger in the beef. We finally identified the taste as cumin. I asked the waitress to verify and she came back and confirmed our guess. The cumin was a bit much in the beef and quite frankly tasted really good to me but the other members of my party found it to be too overpowering and in fact blamed a general blah feeling later on to the cumin. My grandson refused to eat his beef enchilada because of the cumin taste. Ted's bent over backwards to make sure he was happy. They offered chicken strips but he settled for another enchilada without the chili - just cheese. He ate it but he was not particularly pleased with it either. The prices at Ted's are a little high. Everything on the lunch menu was $8.95 with ""add an item"" selections for about $3.99. I added a tamale to my burrito plate. Very good. I have eaten Mexican food all over the world, and having grown up in California I have a definete idea of what is great and what is not. I would rate Ted's at 75 on a 100 scale. However, so far it is the best I have had in Oklahoma. My family would tell you otherwise and they said that they would not go back with me if I ever decided to eat there again. All things considered, I would rather dine at Panco's Mexican Buffet and make everyone in my party happy. more

Fajita's are top notch 2/19/2010

I really like the Salsa the best! The fajitas are top notch much better than Chelino's and any other place I've been to. I agree with other's that the wait time is ridiculous. Any time you go to Ted's plan on waiting at least 30 min to eat, and if you're a person with small kids like me, this is almost impossible. I don't understand why they don't invest money to get a bigger place? The tables are darn near stacked up on top of each other! Not much elbow room. But the service is wonderful and the food is very good. Its worth the price you pay. Pros: Fajitas, salsa, tortilla's, enchilada's Cons: Cramped small building, wait time more

byzan dosent know what hes talking about !! 7/21/2009

i have worked for teds for 3 years and have only commited myself because it is a great company to work for...the atomic salsa is jalepeno based and has chunks of freshly diced avacodo added before served, theres a habenero salsa as well for the fire eaters ,...our tortillas are homemade ..!! what homemade ??? what other mexican resturant in okc serves homemade tortillas , correct me please .. service is great always depending on what location. Teds mission is about customer loyaty and satisfaction .and reassuring guest return %100, and the food is already expensive because its so fresh and topshelf in quality that we dont upsell or try and force appetizers and drinks like any other restaraunt would ..... if you havent tried teds maybe its time be adventurous .. you only live once Pros: fresh ingredients , fresh tortillas , outstanding service Cons: having to wait an hour to eat on the weekends and such... more

yummy homemade tortillas! 9/28/2008

We love this place! The service is so good and the food is wonderful. The salsa is great...try the atomic with chunks of fresh Jalapenos! They hand make the flour tortillas and they keep them coming. Sopapillas for desert with drizzled honey...yum yum Pros: homemade tortillas great salsa and chicken enchiladas Cons: chain resturant more

great salsa and queso 4/8/2008

i gave it 5 stars because me and my parents love the salsa and queso there! It is to die for, honestly.. the other stuff on the menu is good, but too pricy.. an enchilada dinner is like 11.00 dollars :( But if you ever decide to go there, scarf down the salsa and queso! Pros: Ambiance, food Cons: price more

Not that special 2/27/2008

I am embarassed that so many locals adore this place. We have some very special, highly authentic Mexican food in the area, and this is a lowest-common-denominator mass market bland carbfest. They care a lot about service, though, one of about four restaurants in the city where this is true. Even at that, they sometimes miss, and they waits are atrocious. If you live outside Oklahoma, you won't understand what the fuss is about. Go to any small, family Mexican place with the writing in Spanish. Forget this dump. Pros: Some service, fresh tortillas Cons: Bland food, noisy, long waits, obnoxious customers more

Number One for Mexican Food! 1/4/2008

Usually you do have to wait a little while at Ted's, but it is well worth it. The service is very good and fast (once you are seated). After we sit down we usually have our food within 10 to 15 minutes (of course, we already know what we want when we get there). If you've never tried the Chicken Chimichanga I highly recommend that you order it (with Sour Cream sauce). You will never order anything else at Ted's once you try this and you will never want to go to another restaurant! Pros: FOOD!, Fast service, Salsa with chips and tortillas, Free sopapillas Cons: Long wait to be seated during peak hours more

Best Mexican food in town, period. 4/27/2007

Ted's is the best in the city, period. Every time we go the food and service is always consistent and we've been going for a very long time. It's also a great value considering you get free chips, 3-kinds of salsa if you request them all, cheese sauce, flour tortillas (the best!!!), relish, and corn torillas if you want them all included in the price. Plus you get a sopaipilla included for dessert. They constantly refill the above with a smile. I've tried others but as a whole package they don't even come close to the food and service of Ted's. Pros: The best! Cons: None. more

Ted's Cafe Escondido -- COMPLETELY OVERRATED 3/19/2007

Completely overrated. Oklahoman's don't know what true Mexican or Tex-Mex is if they like this stuff. A native Texan, and one that grew up around real Mexican and Tex-Mex, I am extremely dissapointed in this Oklahoma City ""staple"". I can't justify waiting a minimum of 45 minutes anytime -- usually outside without anything to drink b/c the building is so small. Pros: good tortillas Cons: extremely long wait -- outside the building, higher prices for Mexican food. The place is really, really loud inside. more

By far the best Mexican food in OKC. 11/15/2006

Ted's is by far the best Mexican food in OKC. It is definately worth the wait. The tortillas and queso are great! And for lunch or dinner, try the quesadillas. Pros: The food is great! Cons: The wait - but well worth it. more

Avoid any time except 3:30 on Tuesday.... 11/9/2006

The food is average to above average. Far and away their best item is the freshly-made tortillas - excellent. The drawback is the wait. There are scores of small mexican restaurants in OKC with very good food and no wait. Ted's isn't good enough to justify the wait. I'd suggest a go-order, but you can't be in too much of a hurry for that either. I once waited 55 minutes for a go order of nachos at the south location. They didn't forget my order either, I kept having them check. Ridiculous. I would also add that their catered food (typically fajitas) isn't very good at all. It just doesn't seem to weather being held in a warming tray very well. Pros: Tortillas, Decor Cons: Wait, Wait, Wait more

Best Tex-Mex! 11/4/2006

Best restraunt in OKC! EXCELLENT, CONSISTANT service every time! And if you go before 4:30 you can get lunch specials! Cons: may have a wait more

Best salsa and queso 6/7/2006

Great food, although they have had at least 2 or was it 3 price increases, since opening the south location. Love the service, you don't have to ask for anything, they just put it on your table before you ask. I would like to see their prices go back down, although I know that won't happen. Wait time is crazy. Fajitas are so-so, enchiladas are excellent, decent guacamole. Service is usually excellent! Worth a stop for out-of-towners! Pros: Excellent salsa and queso. Service Cons: Prices are a little high for what it is. more

It will be your favorite Mexican place!! 6/1/2006

As soon as you sit at your table someone is looking to see if you need something. They do not interfer with you they just place more free salsa, queso, chips, tortillas, ect down and take away your empties. I am often full before my food gets to the table and that does not take long. The kids meals are very large and the kids love them. Pros: Service, Food, Left overs! Cons: Do not leave feedback, They won't contact , you! more

Fantastic! 7/21/2005

Worth the wait? Absolutely!! There is a reason Ted's is always crowded. It is THE stop in OKC for Mexican. We are from out of town and go out of our way to eat there each time we are in the city. Keep up the good work!! Pros: Food, Service Cons: Wait more
