Horrible Experience!!! 8/24/2012

I contracted with Sweet and Savory last year to make my Son and his fiancé's wedding cake. We met with Melissa several months before with a picture of the cake we wanted, and tasted flavors. Melissa seemed very accommodating, and told us she would be able to make what we wanted. We told her she would have to bring the cake right before the reception started, because we where having the reception at an outside venue, and if it was warm that day, we would have no place to keep the cake cool until the reception. She said that was fine, and she would not bring the cake until around 5 for the six o'clock reception. On the day of the wedding, it was very warm out. Melissa shows up with the cake for the outside reception two hours early! The icing was already melting, and the cake looked terrible. A five year old could have made a better cake. She set it up, said we should try to keep it fool, and took off. It started falling apart immediately! The staff at the venue had to hold it together as they wheeled it into the kitchen to fix it. They had to send someone to the store to get a can of icing to patch it together! It was hideous! I felt so bad for my son and his wife. They had to separate the layers and cut a crumbled up cake! I tried to call her several times to come back and fix it before the reception started, and several times after the event, and she never returned my calls. DON'T order your wedding cake from them, you will be sorry if you do! more

Wow, delicious! 6/3/2008

Today I was at an open house/grand opening sponsored by a builder. They had it catered by Sweet and Savory in Carmel, and it was amazing food! They served turkey sandwiches, on the best bread ever. I had just the lightest hint of garlic in the bread delicious! The potato salad was the best I ever had, it had bacon, cheese, onions, and sour cream in it, I think. YUM! I had one little piece of lemon bar for dessert, which tasted like my mom's recipe, my favorite! It is a little too far for me to go there often, but I will find a way to return! more

No service at "Sweet" and Savory, Carmel, IN, on Michigan Road 5/18/2007

I stopped by today since I had a sitter for my 2 year old, so I could get thbe job done "kid-free" and wanted to order a Baptism/Birthday cake in the midst of tons of other errands I was completing this morning. The lady at the counter greeted me with a frown and mumbled something like, "When did I want it, 'cuz we're not taking any more orders right now..." I replyed that I needed it next week. She said, "Okay, I'll go get Melissa..." She returned a couple of minutes later and said that Melissa was too busy! Would I call and do it by phone?!!!! I was shocked! The lady who greeted me with a frown, as though I was a complete bother, proceeded to give me a brochure listing the type of cakes and prices--- never offered to show me any sample or any other such common courtesy in a bakery business. Unbelievable!! Melissa, the proprietor/baker/chef whatever she is here needs to realize that her customer's time is valuable, too, and I will never order here, nor refer them to my friends. For every 1 unhappy customer, they tell 10 is the rule of thumb I learned in my college courses. I had heard their cakes were good from a neighbor/fellow church member, but now I'm completely soured since they had "ZERO" customer service. I suggest Melissa hire more staff to service her customers with a smile and the common courtesy that keeps a business thriving. more

Local Bakery / Catering 8/17/2005

My son wanted a red velvet cake for his graduation so I went to a local bakery/catering company close to my home. The lady reassured me that she makes this cake often and she could decorate it for a graduation. We decided to do a double layer so it would serve more people. When I picked the cake up it must have weighed 20 lbs! The icing was extremely runny and sliding from the cake in some areas (she said it was because she had to mix coloring into it). Once we got it home, I cut the cake and it was so hard I could barely get the knife through it. I called her back and she did apologize and refund my money, but when I went to get my money she was very rude about it. I'll never buy anything there again! more
