Overall it's not the worst place, but please be careful. 1/2/2009

I felt compelled to write this review because of a recent experience. I live here at Sutton Apts for one year, it was my first apartment ever. A friend of mine from college had lived here and I visited her once and really liked the place. So I mentioned it to my soon to be husband, it was close to his job, close to mine, close to the major highways, relatively affordable, so we thought it was a nice place to look. We were weary because all the apartments we saw, the management said at the end of the lease the rent would go up a certain percentage regardless of whether your income had changed or not. But when we came here, the woman showing us the place said, ""Oh no. We don't do that here. We like our tenants and want to keep them. So at the end of the lease we look at your tax returns to determine if your income changed and if you're making more money then we increase the rent. But it's not usual for us to do that."" She also showed us a very nice, pristine model apartment with white carpeting, almond cabinets in the kitchen, very nice. My husband joked with her saying, ""You're not going to show us a nice apartment to get us to sign the lease then rent us a crappy one, right?"" She laughed ""of course not, the only difference is the carpeting is beige in the apartments, easier to keep clean."" We thought to ourselves, ""Great! This is it!"" The apartment itself was nice and roomy, the cabinets in the kitchen though were that old brown kind, but a lot of light, nice landscape. I was willing to overlook the minor details. So we lived happily for a year, until our renewal letter, which came late and gave us a no time to really decide and our new rent as well which increased $50. I admit it was naive of us to believe something that seemed to good to be true, as well as to not demand to see the actual apartment we would be living in before signing. Overall it's not the worst place, but please be careful. Pros: well-kept landscape, snow removal, relatively quiet nice neighborhood Cons: cigarrette smoke seeps in from apt below more

Up to date review from a current tenant 11/19/2008

This is my first time posting to CitySearch but I was surprised when I read bad reviews. I can see they are from awhile back though so I wanted to post my own up to date review. I am a student at MCPHS and I heard about Sutton through our housing office. Well I came in an looked this past summer and the woman who rented to me was ok, she did her job well but wasn't very outgoing... When it was time for me to move in there was a new girl in the office and she was so nice! She helped me get set up with a hair salon, she told me the best place to get a cheap and good meal and she even had the maintenace men there the same day that I wanted a bar in my closet moved! Its the type of place where they always have yummy pastries and cookies in the office and a smiling face. The manager even called me after a couple of weeks to see how I was settling in!! I've told all my friends at school about Sutton and I am so glad I found it! Compared to the holes downtown this is luxury, and I don't have to pay for my heat this winter!!!! All in all I couldn't be happier. I hope people understand that all apartments are not the same, and one person not liking their apartment doesn't mean everyone isn't happy. Pros: 24 hour guys on call if something goes wrong Cons: people who drive fast on the street and its a dead end more

Old buildings, poor management 6/15/2008

Lived there for one year because I was limited to a grad student's salary. I would never let my friends (or enemies) live there. \r \r I also had a pest problem, but not just ants... rodents! The management put rodent traps in our apartments as a ""courtesy"". The buildings are old, there are cracks around the windows (probably how the ants get in). The floors creak, the walls are paper thin. No matter how quiet my neighbors or I tried to be, we could hear each others conversations, alarms, etc.\r \r The other downside is the lack of amenities. The so-called ""gym"" is a small room which has three old machines (treadmill, bicycle, rowing) and two gym mats. It's attached to the office, so you only have access when the office is open!!!!! So basically you can only use the gym from 10 am- 5 pm. \r \r The manager is unfriendly and useless. Everytime I called about a problem, she was rude and tried to dismiss me. Also, she will do everything to deduct from your security deposit. WARNING: if you are moving out, make sure your are present for the apartment ""walk through"" or inpection which she does 2 weeks prior to your move-out date. I had $400 deducted for a ""damage"" requiring replacement of the bathroom counter. To this day, I have no idea what they were referring to. Pros: Parking, location Cons: Building quality, management more

Don't rent there! 11/23/2007

Sutton has the most unfriendly Management ever. The woman who is on normal weekdays in the office is downright unfriendly and often mean. If you come to bring them the check for rent she gives an impossibly fake smile but otherwise she won't do anything to help you. Most tenants try to avoid her. The buildings are poor and some are beyond repair but they will rent them out anyway. Especially poor is the pest control, ants all over the place during the summer. I've sprayed my apartment to keep them out but it doesn't help. \r After you leave they will screw you for the security deposit of $1000 dollars saying that you have done some damage that you have not done but can't prove you didn't just to have the opportunity to give possible new renters a shiny new place (even though it is really only a new ""surface"" structurally the buildings are old and bad). But sure enough if those people leave it will happen to them too. \r The maintenance people themselves are friendly and relatively quick but they can do nothing more than fix things temporarily (they won't put anything new in the apartments - saying for instance that the windows are too old and that there are no new sills available). Really if you rent somewhere you don't want to see the maintenance people often even if they are friendly and quick. Pros: Parking Cons: Managment, State of the Buildings, Pest Controll more
