Editorial review from Citysearch 12/13/2012

It's been two years since my husband graduated tech school. His favorite food is sushi so I really wanted to take him out to eat somewhere perfect. After a quick google search I found Sushihana, and WERE WE PLEASED!! The food was amazing, and the atmosphere was so relaxed. After being around a bunch of military trainers, we really wanted to find a place to just get away. We got lost in such a zen-like happy place together. The food was great, the prices were great (though at the end of our meal we found out a very nice family paid for our meal) and the atmosphere just was perfect. I couldn't think of a better place to have sushi. We will be coming back in April for my graduation 100%!! 5 stars Sushihana. What a hidden treasure! more

Hidden Gem 7/8/2011

This hidden gem is located in Castle Hills, which happens to be close to our office, so we decided to give it a try. We were so surprised - inside was very zen like and calming and the staff greeted us right away. Normal lunch prices for extraordinary food! Loved the orange miso seabass and crab cakes. The scallops were perfect. Don't miss this place!! more

Re: Run don't walk to Sushihana 12/4/2010

I am sure you have driven by this place many times. STOP in next time for the best dining experience of your life. Amazing wine list as well as sake. Sushi is beyond belief as well as the major dining menu. The service is always helpful and happy to suggest or answer any question. more

A Continuous Dining Experience 11/1/2009

My wife and I have dined at this restaurant now for going on 2 years. In this time we have never been disappointed with either the food, service or ambiance. The staff and owner a always extremely attentive and full of great suggestions. Recently we decided to celebrate my wife's birthday there and left the entire menu in the hands of the chef. I can only say it was a culinary experience that happens very rarely and I have travelled the world (4 years in Asia and 27 years in Europe). I would like to again extend our appreciation of a job well done. I would rate this restaurant on a par with Alan Wong in Honolulu, Hawaii or Tantris and Aubergine in Munich, Germany. Pros: Sushi and So Much More more

Our choice for weekly business lunch 6/1/2009

My personal favorite is the sea bass, cooked to perfection. They also cook my snowpeas a little longer to my liking. The service is always good and the waitstaff knows our special requests . I love the special touch of communication through emails announcing events, specials and occassional discounts. I recommend getting on their email list. You won't be disappointed! Pros: The best sea bass in town more

Great Wine List 5/20/2009

Sushihana is one of my all time favorite places. The decor is very inviting and the staff is very attentive. The food is wonderful, and there is a large variety of items other than sushi. Even though I am a sushi lover, I am often tempted to order the other items. I have not had a bad meal here yet! The other wonderful thing about sushihana is their wine list. The owner has a passion for wine and it shows in his selection. The mark-up on the wine if also very reasonable. When I look for a place to eat I like to have good food and a good wine list to complement it; Sushihana has both! Pros: Atmosphere, Wine List, Food more

Japanese 10/6/2008

This place is really pretty with Japanese decorations everywhere. The staff are really nice and they give good recommendation. The menu was very long and take me quite a while to finish reading it. I am from Seattle but I grew up in an Asian family. I have tried a lot of 'Pork Katsu Don' everywhere in the world. The pork that they used was very thin and it was tough and hard. The rice in the rice bowl was not fully cooked. The sashimi appetizer that I ordered only have 2 tuna, 2 salmon and 3 white tuna for ~$10. The sashimi was pretty fresh but the white tuna was still frozen in the middle when it served. I can say that sushihana salad was really good, but you might want to have the dressing on the side. Overall, I like the service, but the food... well, I might didn't pick the right food to order. Pros: Friendly staff Cons: Food not as good as other Japanese restaurant that I went to more

Small Handrolls 9/16/2008

When I walked into Sushihana I had to say I really liked the atmosphere. They had a nice decor and were very clean. My group decided to order out instead of staying, but I wouldn?t have minded it if we would have stayed. I had the opportunity to talk to the manager little bit about the restaurant and how the sushi was shipped fresh not frozen. I was excited to try what this place had to offer. We ended up ordering a few of their specialty Maki rolls, the Toro, and my personal favorite spicy scallop hand rolls. I felt as if I ordered a lot of food, but somehow everything I had ordered fit in one small tray. That should have been a good indicator as to what to expect. When we opened up the tray we noticed the portions were really small. Specifically, my favorite, the spicy scallop seemed a bit puny. The Toro was alright, expensive, but that is to be expected. I do have to commend them on the originality of their Maki rolls. All in all, I would have to say I was a bit disappointed. Mostly due to the bite size hand rolls we were served. The flavors were ok, but nothing that I could say that really impressed me. Try it for the ambience and different selection of Maki rolls. Just don?t expect to be blown out of the water Pros: Different variety, innovative rolls Cons: small portions, wasn't really impressed more

Wide selection, great ambiance, yummy sushi 8/31/2008

We come here probably once a month, and it never disappoints. We usually go when it's not too busy, because otherwise there will be a wait. The ambience is great, very mellow. The calamari appetizer is not to be missed, not a chewy bite in the bunch - the calamari practically melt in your mouth. My other favorites are tuna sashimi, the Crazy roll and the Rainbow roll. Our favorite sushi place in town. Pros: Great food, great ambience. Cons: Sometimes too packed more

Sushihanna 3/6/2008

Everyone needs to try Sushihanna! I went in with some friends last Friday for the first time. At first we were a little nervous, the decorum is elegant and tasteful, and the wine list and menu are huge. We had no idea what we where doing. After we sat we were greeted by (my opinion) the best waiter at the restaurant. His name is Adrian I think, tall with dimples ask for him. He asked if this was our first time, when we said yes he got really excited and really helped us. Actually, we let him choose what to order. It was wonderful!!! We started with the calamari and the crab cakes...to die for. The next he chose the duncan and crazy roll, they where great and if you like spicy food you will love the crazy. For dinner we had the lamb chops and seabass. Even the desert was out of this world. Bravo Sushihanna, Bravo. I am amazed at how your waitstaff and know so much and food and wine. I had a prefect time at Sushihanna, and I am so happy our waiter took the time to help us with the menu and guide us. Oh, and the wine that Adrian suggested something called Pully Fussy was great. Thank you for the amazing food and best waiter ever. Pros: waitstaff and food Cons: Hard to find more

Best Seafood Udon ever, great wine prices and freshes seafood in town! 2/22/2008

I have dined around the world and am a regular at Sushihana. The wine selection is excellent and very reasonably priced. Their recipes are world class, as is the quality and freshness of the seafood. On my lunch visits I really enjoy the seafood Udon ( it's the best I have ever experienced) with an order of pepper tuna or calamari. Dinner gets complicated with so many world class choices, but I often start with an order of seared scallops, then a San Antonio roll and on to the Salmon. I recommend saving room for the banana split martini!!! It's a real winner. Pros: Wine prices & seafood freshness more

Nice Atmosphere, Nothing Special 9/9/2007

I decided to try this place out since I pass by it almost everyday on my way to work--have to say, I was not impressed. The rolls are very overpriced for what you get and the fish was not all that fresh. Atmosphere was nice, and the service was ok. All in, there are better places in town. Pros: Ambience Cons: Price & Freshness more

best rolls in san antonio 7/24/2007

If you want to take a person out to eat asian food, whether they like sushi or not, be sure to take them to Sushihana. Not only is their sushi super fresh, but the hot food coming from the wok is great. The kitchen is open and you can actually see the chefs cooking your food. The rolls range from the traditional to the ""wow, I've never had anything like this before!"" The ambiance is great for a date or taking clients out. This place is a gem. Sushihana is hidden in Castle Hills, but it is not a place you want to miss. more

Fantastic Sushi 12/18/2006

I visited San Antonio for a month and went to many sushi restaurants. This was one of the best! I was seated promptly, and the waiter was spot on with his timing and assistance. The sushi menu was extensive, particularly the rolls. Most importantly, the sushi tasted fantastic! It was such a wonderful relief to find a restaurant with all good things rolled into one. I will definitely be going back to this restaurant, and would highly recommend it to any sushi-goer. more

Changed thoughts... 3/28/2006

Not as impressed as I used to be... The waitstaff was in a hurry... questioned if 30 mins was enough time for me to stay and eat... Sushi chef was in a hurry to leave... so I left hungry... Cons: Disappointed more

Great restaurant for rolls, not sushi 12/15/2005

I wanted to go for sushi where I hadn't been before. I thought the restaurant was very nice inside. The food was great. The only bummer was the sushi and sashimi were not offered a la carte. You could only get it as a plate and it was the very basic, tuna, shrimp, etc. They have a large assortment of rolls, which were excellent. I recommend it for a place to go if you are only in the mood for rolls. Pros: ambience, service Cons: sushi selection more

great for sushi or other 10/31/2005

Pros: food , wine list, waitstaff more

Sushi so good I wanted to cry... 10/2/2005

From the moment I walked in the door until I left, I was more than pleased. The sushi was like a bite of heaven, the sake excellent, and the plates incredible. The waitstaff was very attentive and friendly. Affordable, beautiful setting inside and just overall unforgetable. I definitely found the best Japanese restaurant in town, and will be there as much as I can! more
