If you're eating landlocked sushi, this is the place 12/22/2010

I've had sushi in virtually every country I've visited, and Sushi Uokura holds its own against them all. Their rolls are large and generous, but I go for the nigiri and it's fabulous. I generally start with a nigiri plate (reasonably priced at about $20) and throw in a rainbow roll and some sort of tempura roll (they have several from which to choose). The ambiance could be more appealing and I'd personally appreciate a child-free zone, but the food cannot be beat. We generally trade off between eating in and carry out, but rarely miss an all-you-can-eat holiday. I highly recommend Sushi Uokura ? no matter the drive, it will be worth it. more

BEST SUSHI IN TOWN 9/17/2010

Anyone who complains about Sushi Uokura should put the crack pipe down. more

WORST SUSHI IN TOWN 4/26/2010

This place was the worst sushi joint that I have ever been to. My bill was 75.00 and wasn't worth 15. Pros: Cool atmosphere Cons: horrible food, dirty oil for frying, tables were filthy more

Terrible food and service and the owner ripped off my friend! 7/17/2008

Recently, my friend, fiance, and I went to Uokura for what we hoped would be a nice dinner. The waitress seated us and then left us without water for nearly 20 minutes. She finally came back to sell us drinks and take orders. The salad/miso arrived promptly but with no utensils. My fiance (who was starving) finally ate his salad with his bare fingers! His food came long before ours. His chicken was so dry that I can honestly say I've had better at McDonald's. He sent it back. Our sushi finally showed up over an hour after we ordered it and was terrible. The fish tasted off. I was sick the following day. Our waitress came by probably three times during two hours. We walked to the front to pay the bill and save time. Pros: None. Cons: The food was awful. The service was nonexistant. And the behavior of the owner was unforgiveable. more

Best Sushi away from the coast 5/27/2008

One of the best Japanese Restaurants in Colorado. I've seen some negative reviews for this place. I personally haven't experianced the Chef in a bad mood. The chef's skill is quite remarkable. As the son of a sushi chef I understand the trade marks of a skilled prepairer. The establishment itself is a tad on the shabby side but charming, especially in the winter. The rolls are obviously the chef's specialty and a spectacular one at that. If you want the typical bennehanna scripted experiance, go someplace else. If your palate desires excellent mid mainland sushi there are few better. more

""Go Home"" 4/11/2008

""Go Home"" was the response to me asking about the seared tuna being mushy. The old guy behind the sushi bar has the personality of a doorknob. Anytime I asked him anything he acted like I was a novice to sushi and was foolish for asking. The rolls were OK but the tuna was mushy and tasteless and when I asked for the bill, and the tuna was still on there, a big discussion ensued between the owner, the sushi chef and the waitress. Pros: close to my house Cons: the worst customer service I have ever had more

Never Fails 3/4/2008

We had heard many great things about Uokura and had to try it for ourselves. It does not disappoint. My husband has been several times for lunch, and I've been twice for lunch and dinner. Yes, the service is kind of slow, but we go to enjoy ourselves and take our time. I'm on here to get the phone number to make reservations for this weekend. My husband requested this restaurant for his birthday/leaving for Afghanistan celebration. We are introducing my family to Uokura, and are sure they will be just as smitten as we are. Pros: Good sushi Cons: Servers could be more attentive more

Comparable to Sonodas=disgusting 8/28/2007

I have been here twice. Both my partner and I were not impressed at all-the second time being bad, the first just mediocre. The seaweed on the rolls was rubbery, which I hate because the rolls end up falling apart and I end up choking on it. The Las Vegas roll was the size of a hockey puc, and impossible to eat- with a mass of cream cheese on the inside and rubbery seaweed. The whole thing just fell apart. The california roll was like something you would get at Albertsons. The restaurant had a lot of people in there for a Tuesday night, but I dont get it. Maybe they were as desperate as I was for sushi. I miss good food and Denver/Golden is so disappointing for someone who loves restaurants. I wish there was a really good sushi restaurant here! more

Quiet and relaxed 6/18/2007

I live in Golden and I love sushi Uokura. I have been there many times and here is why i love it. I know that people complain about the slow service but that comes along with being in a mountain, same with the atomophere, you are in a western mountain town with a lot of down to earth people. The bar is a fun place to sit and watch them prepare your sushi infront of you and I love sushi Uokura so much that for the past two years my boyfriend and I have gone on our prom dinners there. If your looking for a quite and relaxed place to injoy a good mean think about sushi Uokura. more

I don't need Customers Like You 1/11/2006

We had been to Uokura many times because the food and service had been good. On our last visit the soft shell crab rolls (one of our favorites) did not taste right. We let our waitress know and she took them away. When the bill arrived they had not credited us for the two rolls. When we questioned this, the owner came over and we explained the situation. Instead of being receptive, he told us that the rolls were fine and would only credit us for one roll? When we objected he said in a harsh loud voice that the crab was fine and ""I don't need customers like you!"" (the whole restaurant heard) The wait staff was embarrassed and apologetic, we feel for them. Please do not support this business. Do however find the ""best Kept Secret"" in Arvada - Great food - Great Service (Closed Mondays) Pros: Open Monday Cons: Unpolite Owner more

Disappointed 6/9/2005

After having heard wonderful things about this restaurant, my husband and I decided to try it, even though the outside looked a little doubtful. We have visited just about every sushi establishment in the metro area, and do consider ourselves fairly knowledgeable about sushi. The sushi was just average, and by far not the best we have had. It definitely didn't live up to the stellar reviews I had heard. As far as the ambience, there was none. I think it might have been better with some music. (Believe me, we are not fans of the super-trendy and hip sushi restaurants that are springing up everywhere. This did not affect my opinion.) We will not go back to this restaurant, because it wasn't anything to get excited about. We have our own ""best kept secret"" in Arvada. We'll never tell!! more

Our little secret 9/16/2004

I am hesitant to post this as this is our oasis on the west side of town but I've never been good at keeping a secret. When we first started eating here we were one of two occupied tables, however the last time we were there the place was packed. We were a little hesitant we we saw a hand painted sign on Colfax that read ""SUSHI"" with an arrow pointing down Nile St. Like Tante Louise, this is a converted house turned restaurant. If you are tired of the snobbery at some of those other pretentious pas se places and you just want some excellent sushi with some great service you should get this a whirl. Every friend or family member we have brought here has been pleasantly surprised. Pros: Excellent sushi, Great service Cons: Too many kids more

A Hidden Jewel 6/25/2003

I tried this place after some friends from work visited here. The sushi is top notch. The prices are equivalent to any other quality sushi place. I would rather go here then some other den, and you don't have to wait in line or put up with all the ""beautiful people"". more
