AVOID THIS SHOP!!!!!\r \r I took my Volkswagen Karmann Ghia into Sun Valley Automotive for break issues. I was told I needed a new master cylinder. I approved a new master cylinder. When I received my car back, I still didn't have breaks. So I took the car back. The second time Sun Valley had my car they did some brake wiring and kept my car for two to three months. When I received my car back, I still didn't have brakes. \r \r I then moved back to California and now my Karmann Ghia is being reviewed as to why I didn't have brakes. The brake system was entirely gone. The brakes, drums, rotors, and boots on the rear were shot. The front as well, the parking brake was stretched beyond fixable and the master cylinder looks as though it was never replaced. If it had been replaced the gas tank would have had to been pulled. I also found out that the elbows that hold my gas tank in are now bent and I was leaking gas.\r \r I am wondering now if I was charged for services not rendered, or if they did do the services and cause my gas issues. Also why would the mechanic not tell me about the condition of my brakes when I brought the car into them for brake issues.\r \r Also, I was charged for a smog that was never done. I was told by the night front desk attendant that my car passed smog but I'd have to go to the DMV for proof because they had my car for so long that they LOST my smog certificate. more

Kind, and honest guys. They figured out what was wrong and got it fixed quickly. I won't go anywhere else more

Editorial review from Citysearch 6/10/2013

Went in at about 9Pm on Saturday June 8th to get a smog on my vehicle. I was told that it did not pass smog, but the person behind the counter could not tell me what the code meant why I did not pass smog, but if I wanted to bring it back for $94.00 I could bring it back tomorrow and they could put it on their machine and tell me what was wrong with it. I went home and contacted a friend who said the code on my failed smog was for a break light switch.....what the hell does my brakes have to do with my emissions. So Sunday we went to the car was at Charleston and Torrey Pines that also does smog....GUESS WHAT.....my vehicle passed smog without a hitch, Do not go to Sun Valley Automotive,,,,,if you do and you don't pass get a second opinion. I wonder what they would have said if I let them put it on their machine. Nice waiting room, but I guess they have to make money somewhere to pay for it more

Sun Valley Automotive rip off 1/4/2013

I took my late model car to Sun Valley to have it smoged. The tech. saw that the check engine and maintenance lights on the dash were lite. He did the smog check. While he was doing so I mentioned that I might get my car's service done there. His face lite up as he qoted me various prices for things he suggested to have done. I told him that I was a senior on a fixed income and that I could not afford to have all of those things done at once. He said, "Well, your car won't pass the smog test unless I do them. It will never pass while those maintenance lights are on. I'll have to do all of those repairs before you can pass."\r \r He knew before he did the smog test that the car would not pass because of the dash lights. Yet he did the test anyway and charged me $19.95. He wanted to get me for more but I said that was it. That was all of the money he was going to swindle me out of. I complained to the manage at the register. He gave me a line of balony that it was illegal to n more

Terry on the pipe 11/30/2012

If I could give a zero I would. I started going to Sun Valley 15 years ago. Recently they have gone from a reputable shop to a bunch of cheats who will never get your car right the first time. recently I took a car in to have them change a broken lug bolt. This necessitated pulling the hub and pressing the new bolt in from behind. I got the car back and discovered that they had merely found a bolt short enough to put in without pulling the hub! They still charged 60 bucks!\r After getting my cash back I pulled the hub and did it myself. I then had a check engine light. I had Auto Zone do a diagnostic and the check was very specific. "jumped time, tensioner pulley failed".\r I took the printout to see what they would charge for a timing belt change. A short trailer troll looking guy, after finishing his shuck and jive about girls with his buddy in the waiting room came out and asked to help me. I showed him the printout, he laughed, said "Imonna take yer car round back and do a more

B.S. and not professional! 3/13/2012

Their "no catch" $10 smog check had a catch that was not on their website anywhere! Costs twice that for a (6 cylinder) light duty truck! Tested anyway, popped the hood and only one of the two wingnuts and NONE of the clamps that secure my air filter were properly reassembled. I wrote to them and received absolutely no response! POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE! A friendly and courteous demeanor behind the counter was the only plus... more

Sun Valley Automotive the best in LV 1/27/2012

I would like everyone in Las Vegas to know that Sun Valley Automotive is a *****FIVE STAR business. When I moved to LV two years ago, I was very concerned about finding a mechanic. I took my car to the same mechanic in San Diego from the day I got the car over 10 years ago until I moved to LV. Some of my friends would say, ?being a girl and not knowing what the mechanic is even talking about, makes a girl wonder if mechanics actually rip them off. With Sun Valley Automotive Mechanics this is not a concern, they are true, honest by the book mechanics. \r People complain wherever you go about the cost of mechanics, well mechanics are comparative as a good Doctor is to their patient. Auto repair tasks are very involved and hard work. Most people just complain how much it cost without even knowing what repairs the mechanic made and how much time and labor was put into the repairing of a car of any magnitude. \r My point here is if you like to have confidence in knowing you are getting yo more

Sun Valley gone to the dogs! 8/19/2011

They have taken 13 1/2 months to attempt to complete an engine overhaul for my 1968 Ford Mustang. They have continually dropped the ball on providing information, locating parts, and just plain doing the work in earnest. I had been a customer since they were located on the corner of Lone Mt and Rancho and had always been pleased. This is no longer the case! Their treatment of my vehicle and lack of effort tells me that I am not appreciated as a customer. more

Sun Valley auto gone to the dogs! 8/19/2011

I have been waiting almost 14 months for Sun Valley to complete an engine overhaul for my 1968 Ford Mustang. I started the repair July of 2010 so my daughter could drive the car to school junior year. She is starting her senior year this August 2011 and it is still not done. They have continually failed to communicate with me, locate parts and work to complete this job. I am having to resort to hiring a tow truck and taking the car to someone else to finish it. Since they moved locations and started doing fleet repair work their attention to the little guys who were their bread and butter has faded. I was a loyal customer of theirs for almost 15 years and unfortunately after their treatment of my vehicle and lack of effort to complete the ""two week"" job, my relationship with them is at an end. I now know how Tom Hanks' caracter felt in the movie ""The Money Pit."" more

My simple battery replacement cost was:\r $92 Labor\r $223.96 Parts\r $15.80 Supplies\r $3.16 Disposal of old battery\r $19.42 Tax\r $354.34 Total !!!!!!\r \r My new battery is an O'reilly that cost $155.00 from O'reilly auto parts (conveniently located right across the street). After Taxes they marked up the cost of the battery $75.00!!\r When I asked about the 'supplies' charge I was told it was for shop towels, uniforms, and other misc supplies. $15.80 for that!!??\r These people are rip-off artists and are more expensive than dealerships.\r Stay Away!! more

Terrible Experience !! 6/30/2011

Sun Valley Automotive, Las Vegas has ripped me off, last month I have some problem in my car, I went to Sun Valley, and they have diagnosed the car. They said it would take approximate one day to repair; I left my car there and paid some advance to them. Next day when I went there, they have not done anything, they told me to come again. Next day it happens again. I become very frustrated, and then I had searched another Auto Repair Shop for my car. It was a horrible experience for me; even they have not returned the money. I recommend you all to not contact these frauds. more

Stay Away 4/29/2011

Lots of bitching here, and for good reason. Any post complimenting SVA is posted by their stooges. In fact, a former customer service rep, Chuck, told me "it pays to have a big family to invent posts". I took my vechicle in for a possible transmission problem. The bill was nearly $4,000. Then got a second opinion from AAAMCO--guess what, nothing wrong with the transmission at all. These people do not care who they screw. If you go there, you will be next. Stay away. more

Do Not Do Business There 4/28/2011

This has to be the worst place to get your vehicle worked on. The cost to repair the damage they did to my truck (In the thousands) is still haunting me nine months later. They even screwed up a simple oil change!!! I encourage anyone who has had the displeasure of doing business with these crooks to send a complaint to the Better Business Bureau then maybe with enough effort we can get the doors closed on this place!! more

Engine fan guess! 4/21/2011

Stay away from this place! Had a female friend take her car here to find out why engine cooling fan was not coming on when the a/c was turned on they told her the engine was not overheating at this time.suspect fan is intermittently non-operational and recommended replacement of fan assembly at a cost of $668.00 which she declined to have done at that price.New fan price at autozone is under a hundred. But here is where it gets good they told her during inspection they found a pcv hose leaking and recommend replacement so she did which was a big mistake they got her for $67.64 for 14.09 parts 46.00 labor 5.00 supplies and 1.00 for disposal and1.55 tax. I am not done here is the best part! They told her she had excessive engine vibration and recommend replacement of motor mounts for a price of $1430.00! ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!! I just replaced them a week ago.She told them to look in the trunk and they would see the old ones that came off the car. They had no comment on it. I will be checkin more

Sun Valley Auto Ripped Me Off 2/24/2011

Don't ever take your car to this crooked shop. I took my car in for a diagnostic because it was shifting hard and long shift to 2nd gear. They told me it was caused by a broken transmission mount only. I assumed, ( you know what happens when you do that) that they did a complete diagnostic ruling out transmission failure. But no, they did not, they just ""looked"" at it and decided the most obvious thing must be all that is wrong with it. Well that ""band-aid"" worked for 3 days and then my car did the same exact thing. I took it back to Sun Valley complaining that my car was still not fixed and they said that they could now do more testing. What? Why? Didn't they already do a diagnostic. Apparently no. I refused and took it to Findlay Honda, they told me my transmission was failing and didn't even charge me a diagnostic fee. Not only do you get ripped off but you get treated horribly. I tried to formally complain to the General manager, Mike Rumple, but I have only had the pleasure of talking to him twice, each time less than 5 minutes. I have called several times and am always told the same, he is out of the office or in a meeting. Apparently Sun Valley doesn't care about customer service. When you look at their website they are accredited with an A+ rating from the better business bureau, say that they have ASE certified technicians and are a affiliated with Tech-Net. Which is misleading because you expect knowledgeable technicians and ethical service, you get neither of those with Sun Valley Auto. Just so everyone knows, Terry B. is Terry Buis the OWNER of Sun Valley Automotive. Shame on you Terry, you should take better care of your company. more

RIP OFF EMISSIONS TEST 11/21/2010

I took my daughters car just to have an emissions test. It is a 2001 I have have always done all the maintenance on the car including high grade gas. \r IT FAILED! They offered to fix. If the bill was more than $500 they would give me a voucher to by pass the emissions test for one year. I just had a feeling they were full of shi\r I TOOK IT TO TERRIBLE S A DAY LATER AND HAD NO ISSUES it passed with flying colors\r SHAME ON YOU IN THIS ECONOMY!!!!!!!!! more

Sun Valley Automotive...Charged with Attempted Murder! 11/18/2010

The only reason I chose a star is because I have too...If it were my choice they would get a negative grade.\r Well at first I thought that they offered excellent customer service....Dun...Dun...Dun...then they half a$$ed installed my fuel pump, half a$$ed re-wired under my dash, and then....are you sitting down? They claimed that my ECM ( Computer) was fried and needed to be replaced....well the original ECM is still in my car an inch thick with dust and cob webs....so they ripped me off because my mother was helping with the service...pigs all they saw were dollar signs....Not to mention that I had to go out of state about 500 miles and they didn't install the fuel pump properly...so it was pouring out gas my whole trip...you want to know the best part ....the un-helpful and un-caring general manager had the never to say that that was nothing to be concerned with as if it is ok to drive the interstate in a mobile bomb with my daughter with me... Thanks alot for your crummy service...i more

No longer reliable :( 11/11/2010

Over 5 years ago I was recommended to Sun Valley by my father who is a retired auto shop owner/mechanic (not from Sun Valley). Back then the service was reputable, but it seems that lately they are slipping. Last summer they somehow charged me $112 to recharge the freon in my 10 year old Chevy Cavalier. I knew there were no problems with the a/c then, that the car was just old and the freon was bad (it is very common - despite what some shops will say - to need a freon recharge in a 10+ year old car). Anyway, they refused to recharge it without an inspection, I thought that that was somewhat reasonable and I trusted them so I allowed it. Too bad their inspection came up with my same conclusion (just old) and it cost me an extra one hour labor charge. \r \r Not to mention that now - six months later - the a/c is not working. Never had a problem with it until Sun Valley touched it. I will be taking it into a different shop this time, a shop that at least will do the inspection for free and more
