Don't Believe Everything you read 4/5/2010

I was present when the customer that gave the past review about the trunk repair. I have been a customer of Summer's Automotive for over 12 years and have always been given great service on my autos. The prices are fair and equitable and the owner and his staff are professional and friendly. My only comment in regard to this situation of the trunk repair gone bad, is that the customer was given a chance to pay that which she thought was fair and told exactly what the extent of the problem was without being charged for the two hours that was spent on the repair to diagnose what was the problem. It is unfortunate that this customer felt upset and taken advantage of because I was present and in the waiting room when this took place observing the whole situation and I think this customer completely misunderstood what the owner had to say on the matter taking him to be rude and not caring about his clientele. more

Horrible Customer Service 3/19/2010

Encountered a very rude owner who does not appreciate his clientele. After being made to wait almost 2 hours with no estimate or forewarning as to the extent of their work, I was shocked to hear that not only had my issue not been repaired (my trunk not opening) but rather they had spent that time disassembling the back seats and trunk latches. When I refused to pay $230 just to get my trunk to open, they attempted to make me pay for labor anyways. After the owner's rude comment to me (and prompt exit), one of the employee's was forced to apologize for his behavior. I left with my backseats in disarray, a plastic bag full of trunk parts in the seat, and a feeling of disbelief. more

Do not do business here! 12/10/2008

This shop attempted to take advantage of my 72 year old mother by selling her almost $1,400 of work on a $690 1987 Subaru (IAW Kelly’s Blue Book). They not only misdiagnosed a simple cooling system by-pass hose leak to be a leaking head gasket, they also removed the engine and sold her the other head gasket and a rear main seal. They told her the timing belts and the water pump required replacement although both were replaced just 3,607 miles ago (by a different shop). I towed it home $409.51 too late // more

An HONEST Car Repair shop - A Rare Breed! 1/30/2008

After realizing that the shop I had been going to was totally ripping me off (they charged me $200 for diagnostics that 3 other reputable shops said would normally be about $80), a friend recommended Summer's Automotive. I spoke at length with Brian, the owner. He was very courteous and took the time to listen to me and explain some of the workings of my car. I had a serious problem- blown head gaskets. The other shop quoted me $2500 for the repairs. Brian did all the work and more for $1700. He did a great job and I just got a good vibe from him, like he wasn't out to take advantage of me. He's been in business for 29 years and there's good reason! I would highly recommend Summer's Automotive to anyone who wants quality work done for a reasonable price! more

Summers Automotive comes through in a pinch 10/19/2006

I found Summers after my car blew up while driving to an appointment in Kirkland. As it would not make it home, I searched Judysbook for an honest mechanic to check out my defunct car. Given the circumstances of the car problem, I was sure it was something extremely serious, like a head gasket requiring thousands of $ to put back together. Jeff at Summmers took a look and told me it was a fairly simple repair - my air intact/turbo charger had become clogged and thus the car would no longer run. Anyway, he did a great job getting it fixed up for much less than I thought. While he was at it, I had him fix a bunch of other things that had been slowly going wrong. All in all a very good shop! more

Summers Automotive Gets an A+ 9/22/2006

I had a brake job done at Summers. It was a pleasant experience that was substantially less than the price quoted by a dealer. It was raining when I dropped off my car so I had the chance to spend some time with the owner, Brian, as he drove me home. It became clear that I was in the right place as Brian's way of doing business, i.e., if it need to be fixed we fix it and if it doesn't, we don't, neatly coincided with my idea of what an auto repair business should be. I was most impressed and will be giving Summers my future business. more

Superb 7/20/2006

The folks at Summers Automotive are great! I took in my 2000 4Runner for service there and while other places were quoting me a flat $550+ flat fee for 60K service, Summer's automotive policy is to replace/fix only those parts that need attention and charges just for parts and labor associated w/ the repair. Owner of the shop called and explained all the necessary repairs (and what's not necessary) prior to work completed. The total was way under to what comparable shops quoted (incl. dealer) I dropped the car off in the morning (steps from a bus that takes you to the Kingsgate Park & Ride and car was ready in the afternoon. I will definitely be going back to Summers for my automotive needs on all our cars (2). more

Honest auto repair places are worth their weight in gold 8/16/2005

Summers Automotive in Kirkland is a rare breed these days. I've taken three vehicles there on several occasions and have complete confidence that they'll never try to pull the wool over my eyes or do anything that's not necessary. How about with my 1974 Jeep that I'd rewired myself after it caught fire? Instead of recommending they rewire it for me they figured out the few spots I'd screwed up and fixed just that. A 1993 Honda Civic that needed a little bit of everything including a new H on the front got only a recommendation for a new timing belt given the cost to fix everything was way more than the whole thing was actually worth. Finally, a 1999 Isuzu Rodeo that we were sure needed some serious work turned out to only need a tune up and a new air filter. In each instance Summers was happy to let the car sit on their lot for days while I was out of town and their staff was happy to explain exactly what they'd done as I nodded along in supposed comprehension. more
