Excellent Restaurant !!\r They have a lively bar in front with music that was great. A main dining room with black table cloths and a large wine cellar under glass.\r \r My husband and I had dinner in July 2012 getting seated right away on a Thursday night without a reservation. \r We passed on the wine cellar since we dont drink wine and had a cocktail instead. I had the Red High Heels which was delicious!\r \r the menu ranges from steaks to sea food with some chef specials. Most things are served a la carte they also have topping options for steaks. \r We booth choose steaks with a Gorgonzola butter sauce that were perfectly cooked and delicious! We also shared a side of fabulous au gratin potatoes and had left overs. In fact everything we had from the bread at the beginning to the cheesecake for dessert was absolutely wonderful!\r The service was friendly, attentive and excellent! more

Great food! Great service! 4/17/2012

My husband and I went to Sullivan's for our 3 year wedding anniversary. We waited 10 mins before we were greeted by a waitress. I could tell from looking around that this was completely out of the ordinary, so I informed a member of staff and from then on service was spectacular! Our waitress Megan was so pleasant and attentive. She was very knowledgeable about the food she was serving. We didn't want for anything. If Megan wasn't checking on us, someone else was. If Megan wasn't bringing a certain dish, someone else was. This restaurant is a little pricey, but its worth every penny. And to top it all off, because it was our anniversary, we got a free dessert. We chose the creme brulee because it's my favorite and I get it everywhere I go. The creme brulee at Sullivan's is by far the BEST I've ever had. I ordered the Salmon steak and my husband ordered the Ribeye with a gorgonzola butter (suggested by Megan) that was amazing. The martinis were spectacular. I honestly have no complaints and we will definitely be back!! more

FIRST TIME AND LAST TIME 11/30/2011

Nine of us made a reservation for a table at Sullivan's to celebrate a friends birthday.\r Our reservation was for 8:30 on Saturday, November 19th. We arrived and waited in the bar for an hour before we were escorted to our table. \r Sullivan's did bring us 4 appetizers to thank us for waiting. THEN THE PRODUCTION REALLY BEGAN.\r We all ordered. Few minutes later, waiter comes out and tells us that the kitchen is out of Romaine, and we would have to order the lettuce wedge, instead of Ceaser. (ICEBERG LETTUCE !!!) \r Few minutes he comes out again to tell a couple of us that the kitchen was out of potatoes and they would have to order another side. (Steakhouse out of potatoes?????)\r Few minutes later, he is there again to tell 3 ladies that the kitchen was out of the filet on the bone, and they would need to make another choice. By now we are all wondering if the inmates are running the asylum.\r FINALLY, our dinner arrives, and those of us who made the mistake of ordering our meat medium were greeted with blood all over our plates. I mean RARE!!\r So, they take the cut meat back to the kitchen to heat it. And naturally, it will never taste good when you heat meat like that.\r ONce we finish dinner and ask for our checks, we are told that the computer is down and they are hand doing every credit card. Do you know how long that takes for 9 credit cards. \r We thought we would never get out of that noisy place.\r For the price I paid for that filet, I felt ripped off big time. On Monday of the next week, I e-mailed Sullivan's and have not yet heard back. \r Don't waste your money. The place is super noisy and the food does not stand out. \r more

Sullivans on Christmas Eve 10/16/2011

I wonder if Sullivan's read reviews? They should if they want to receive feedback and hence improve. We went there last evening. I had a $42 22oz cowboy ribeye and ordered it med-rare but it was rare and the quality of the meat didn't seem as good as the same cut that I had at Tripps earlier in the week. My wife had seared scallops which was a nice dish but the scallops were just warm on the inside, she mentioned it to the server , who mentioned it to the manager who wanted to offer a free desert but neither of us eat sweets. He did take half off her scallops which was good of them but we really would have preferred the meal cooked as ordered. Instead of the usual dinner jazz trio they had some noisy guitar-playing busker type young man, which seemed incongruent for the image they want to portray . He looked like he had come straight from fayetteville street including the scruffy attire. I was surprised that the house red was $13 a glass. At these prices everything should be spot-on service, food drinks more

Raleigh poorest Steakhouse 5/24/2011

Visited on May 24, 2011, I would not recommend or return! The prices were the same as Ruth Chris, but the quality of food and service not close. The server should have been working at a chain restaurant (fast food). Ordered my steak Pittsburgh Rare, it was not close to being cooked properly. A waste of $218.00 w/o tip for two people. more

Will never patronize this establishment again. 2/14/2011

My wife and I are new to Durham so we don't know were to go. So we used the reviews on this site to make our decision. We drove 24 miles to this restaurant. We were turned away because we did not have a reservation. Now mind you the restaurant was empty and we saw lots of seating. We were told that we could not be seated until 8:30pm, it was 3pm when we arrived. I don't know what the problem was. Rather than raise a fuss we just patronized other establishments on Gleenwood Ave. We are a successful Afro-American couple residing in the Durham/Raleigh area. If the place was as good as it was said to be, it would of been rented for my 40th birthday bash. I no longer have any interest in doing business with Sulivan's. I wish them the best. One of the most embarrassing moments I ever had in my life. more

Excellent Food in Glenwood South 10/11/2010

Great food and great atmosphere are the hallmarks of this Raleigh Glenwood South restaurant! There is an urban masculine feel to the environment with dark woods and finishing details, but the food is light and bright and terriffic! The specials are always worth ordering and of course, Sullivan's is known for their excellent steaks and extensive wine list. Perfect place for a batchelor's party! Not nearly as good as it used to be 4/26/2010

This is the second time in the last year we've been to Sullivan's where the steak's are not being cooked properly.\r I am a medium rare guy, my wife (unfortunately) is a medium well gal.\r Last night we ordered the filet's again along with a tail - my steak was flat out raw, and cold in the middle.\r The fat lines were still hard, and it was disgusting.\r My wifes medium well steak came out medium rare, warm to cool center - just the way I like it.\r The tail was butchered beyond belief - no knife skills whatsoever.\r Disapointing as we used to save going to Sullivans for a special occasion. We've been sticking with Vinnie's on sixforks and the Barn - and both of them are proving much more reliable, and presenting more skilled creations. I think the chain-ness of Sullivan's has caught up with them and the kitchen quality has gone down the drain. Won't be back anytime soon.\r Pros: Atmosphere, Bar - good martinis Cons: Steak cook has lost skills more

Totally Disappointed and Embarassed 4/4/2010

I was given a 100.00 gift card for Sullivans and was so excited to use it; however, the food was substandard the sirloin was tough and the fries (because they were less expensive than the potato) were lousy. I had saved this card for awhile and was totally disappointed by the quality of the food. Our waiter was snobbish and because we had a gift card I think that was directly related to the service. Next time its Angus Barn, at least their food is consistently excellent. Glad it wasn't my nickel! Pros: classy atmosphere Cons: quality of food 1/2 star more

GREAT STUFF!!!!! 12/28/2009

I am from NY and I LOVE SULLIVAN'S!!!!!. Music was nice service was great and the woman were hot!! Management was great as i met Heather on the way in and I met Greg on the way out. The cocktail ladies are to die for. KC Strip was wonderful and the KNOCKOUT MARTINI was something that I have had before but still top notch. Pros: EVERYTHING Cons: NOTHING other then Parking more

Excellent place to entertain friends, family, or business 8/29/2009

We arrived on time for our reservation and were sat immediately. The wait staff was friendly, professional, and made use feel at ease. The calamari, shrimp cocktail were everything we expected. The filet was cook to perfection, and the side dishes were seasoned well. Pros: The food, the wait staff, the chef (Rob) are fantastic Cons: The price is at the higher end more

A disappointing expericne 6/28/2009

This was our second experience at Sullivan's and I must admit I was disappointed. We were looking forward to a nice evening with good food and company based on our previous experience. However, we were quite disappointed. We stared with Lobster Bisque which was mediocre at best. The French Onion Soup was good and the Ahi Tuna appetizer was nicely done except there was no warning about the strong wasabi sauce on which it was plated. My lamb chops were done to perfection however, the Vesuvio chicken was over-cooked and too dry. Iceberg wedge was average, bread was served hot and was good. Champagne could have been colder. We were served a complimentary raspberry souffle as we were celebrating a birthday. However, it was meant for all to share and no one liked raspberry but me. It would have been better if they had alerted us so we they could have prepared something for all to enjoy. However, the absolute worst part of the evening was the music. It was too techno and roboto. At times I felt like I was in Karachi Pakistan. It was absolutely awful and clearly not appropriate for that kind of atmosphere. And, the appropriate dress on the website was business casual.....I don't consider men in flip flops and shorts to be business casual. We won't be going back and we definitely will not be recommending Sullivan's to our friends and business associates. Pros: Great lamb chops and desserts Cons: Awful dinner music more

Great Restaurant and staff..... 4/1/2009

Great management and staff, the food remains consistent after 10 years. Its a Glenwood South mainstay. If you want a steak.. you go to Sully's!- JHack Pros: The People and Food more

All Business 2/13/2009

I took a few potential clients to Sullivan's a few nights ago. We had a wonderful time and made a huge impression on them. The staff was not only friendly and prompt, they were also fun and energetic. The meal is not cheap, but you should know that going in to the meal. The price I paid for great food, wine, and service was well worth it. I will be returning often to dine with clients, friends, and family. For those of you who fear the price, there is a sepereate menu that is much easier on the wallet. Check it out, you will not be let down. Pros: Great for entertaining Cons: So much food! more

Good food..a bit pricey though 1/16/2009

My husband and I were having a night on the town sans the kids and decided to treat ourselves. The atmosphere was lovely and lively although the entrance looks like the hallway from a 70 yr old middle school. But once you got into the restaurant it was quite warm and beautiful. The service was quick and attentive. My husband ordered the salmon and ate every last bite. I had the filet and was impressed with the flavor and tenderness. My only real complaint was that the sides were an additional charge and this fact was not pointed out by our server. He just asked what side we wanted, just like they would anywhere else except sides are normally included in the price of the meal. While they were large and better than average taste it was pretentious. Pros: Good Food Cons: too pricey for what you get more

Extreamly disapointed 12/20/2008

I have to say >> I am quiet disappointed!\r We had reservations and when we arrived were told that it would just be a few minutes - so we decided to to wait at the bar... after some time we inquired again to find that they had forgotten us!\r Our waiter appeared very friendly, unfortunately we only saw him when he took our orders and then again when he came to collect the check!!!\r Now as far as the food ... we ordered Steak & baked Potatoes - Both Steaks were ""burned"" and the baked Potatoes was only luke warm! Furthermore the young man that brought us our food did not have enough butter etc. to dress the Potatoes!\r The entire time no one came by and checked on us - to see if we maybe needed anything else - there was no sign of the waiter that initially had taken our order.\r I am not sure if by it being the holiday season I should overlook this - however on the other side for a $100.00 dinner I expect only the best food and the best service - which was obviously not provided here! more
