Sometimes old school is best, and it sure is cheaper 12/8/2008

I love living near to Saint Johns Theatre. It's a quaint old theatre with two screens, serving pizza, beer, wine and reasonably priced sodas, popcorn and candy. In fact it's all reasonably priced, including admission. Go to any Regal cinema and they fleece you with expensive tickets, criminally overpriced sodas, candy, popcorn, etc, and nasty food. For the two of us a trip to Regal is generally twice as expensive than Saint Johns Theatre, and yet we have pizza and a drink and something sweet, and a place that feels... well, nice. They have family nights on Mondays (no booze and cheap tickets) and special kid Saturdays. It's also in a quieter neighborhood, so you have smaller crowds to deal with. Many of my fellow locals hope the place stays a secret. We love it. I don't want to oversell it either. It's old, so it's a tad rundown and some of the seats are a little iffy, and modern cinemas do have their advantages. But for me one of the first things I think when I see a movie coming up that I want to see is, ""I hope it plays at Saint Johns Theatre."" It's also next to a gelato place and Anna Bannanas (who have the best coffee) and is across the road from Proper Eats and other restaurants in the area. all of this just off Portland's most beautiful bridge. Go make an evening of it some time. An authentic Portland experience. Pros: Quaint, affordable, yummy offerings, nice location Cons: A little run-down more

Love the pre-movie slideshow! 9/22/2008

Dude, I love this theater. Please don't come here or you will ruin it for all of us who live out here in the far far hinterlands of NoPo. Pros: Authentic, non corporate more

Best deal in town 7/12/2006

I love this little theater! I have been going to it for years and years. As a child they gave us free movie passes at local schools. The remodel is wonderful and it is never very crowed. You never have to worry about all of the tickets being sold out. What I really love is that they are a very wonderful locally owned and operated business. Wonderful pizza and Beer! Keep up the great work. Pros: The family oriented atmosphere and I always run into friends while there. Cons: The sound quality is not quite as good as the big guys but still better than my t.v. more

Darn good beer and pizza! 7/6/2006

Even if you forget that they only take cash, there is an ATM in the lobby. Great beer, and Pizzacato pizza, what more can you ask for? The only bad thing is they don't sell beer until after 5, so wait for the late show. Pros: Beer, beer, beer Cons: Bring a sweater if you get cold easily, parking more

Great neighborhood theater! 6/25/2006

We love this place. It's -THE- place in Portland to catch first run movies without patronizing a corporate movie conglomerate. Pizza and beer are good, seats are fine but nothing super new, sound system is fine. All in all, a great place to catch a movie. If you can, see the downstairs one, as the upstairs theater can feel a little small. more

Love St. John's Theater! 3/5/2006

What a wonderful little place! Good movies, great pizza, and such a nicely redone theater. Tends to get a bit chilly in the winter if the theater isn't full, but it definitely doesn't distract from the fun. It's a charming, affordable solution to people who want to go to dinner and a movie. This place definitely has the whole package, with friendly service to boot! It definitely has my vote as one of my favorite places in St. Johns :) Pros: Atmosphere, Price, GREAT FOOD!!! more

Shhh! It's our secret! 11/26/2005

If you're tired of being ripped off by the major theatre chains and want 2 theatre tickets, large popcorn and soda, two pieces of pizza and a beer for $22? Then search no further. After a fairly recent remodeling these folks have taken the theatre up a notch to make it a great place to see a flick at prices for the everyday man and woman. Shows before 6 p.m. are $3.75. Remember that next time you're standing in line at one of the fancy places and paying $9 or $10 a ticket. You could have had dinner or at least your concessions included! Pros: first run movies, great prices, awesome concessions more

Beer & Pizza!! 12/21/2004

Where can you see a first run film for $5.75(affter 6pm) with Beer and Pizza?! As far as i know this is the first theater to serve beer and show first run films! The place looks great, new paint, updated bathrooms, ect. Owners VERY nice! I love the upstair theater, its small, but you have a great veiw in there! Pros: BEER, PIZZA, $$$$VALUE more
