I love living near to Saint Johns Theatre. It's a quaint old theatre with two screens, serving pizza, beer, wine and reasonably priced sodas, popcorn and candy. In fact it's all reasonably priced, including admission. Go to any Regal cinema and they fleece you with expensive tickets, criminally overpriced sodas, candy, popcorn, etc, and nasty food. For the two of us a trip to Regal is generally twice as expensive than Saint Johns Theatre, and yet we have pizza and a drink and something sweet, and a place that feels... well, nice. They have family nights on Mondays (no booze and cheap tickets) and special kid Saturdays. It's also in a quieter neighborhood, so you have smaller crowds to deal with. Many of my fellow locals hope the place stays a secret. We love it. I don't want to oversell it either. It's old, so it's a tad rundown and some of the seats are a little iffy, and modern cinemas do have their advantages. But for me one of the first things I think when I see a movie coming up that I want to see is, ""I hope it plays at Saint Johns Theatre."" It's also next to a gelato place and Anna Bannanas (who have the best coffee) and is across the road from Proper Eats and other restaurants in the area. all of this just off Portland's most beautiful bridge. Go make an evening of it some time. An authentic Portland experience.
Pros: Quaint, affordable, yummy offerings, nice location
Cons: A little run-down
