MEMORIAL DAY PARADE! 5/18/2006

Growing up I always left plenty early to head on down my street "Downing" and set up seating spots for myself and my family. I loved going to the Memorial Day parade and I was not alone in my excitement. It would occur right on Harper Avenue between Nine and Ten Mile Roads and it was great to spend the day with neighbors and friends and family. more

I was raised in the City off of Lake St. Clair...Still I Live Off the Lake only 17 miles North! 4/6/2006

My family moved to St. Clair Shores in 1964. This was dad's idea as he loved the water. In fact, My father and I worked on the boat docks of Island Harbor while I was growing up during the summertimes. Back than there was no indoor skating rinks, so having a dad that loved to skate...we would frequent civic center outdoor rink in the very cold blustery winters. Or we would toggle down next to the firestation because, they too, had an outdoor skating rink. My brother, who was braver, would play hockey on the canals with his friends. I loved growing up in this posh neighborhood of that day. St. Clair Shores had the best schools and I was honored to graduate from Lakeview HIgh School in 1974. I went to Beechwood Elementary and Chippewa Jr. High which both have been converted into nursing homes. The friends I made back than have been friends for life but as the saying goes...you can't go home again. And since dad died I can't bring myself to go back to the old neighborhood. Mom has since moved to Florida and my best friend from back than moved to California. That same lake flows through my backyard up here near Algonac. It just followed me north! more

Very nice city to live in 4/5/2006

I really like St. Clair Shores. You can find just about anything here. Being located just off the water is also another plus, especially in the summertime!! The Memorial Day parade is always fun for the kids, the Easter egg hunt they sponsor is too! Love the Festival of Lights, when it has been here, as well as the tree lighting ceremony at the library at Christmas time! The city offices are located on Jefferson at the corner of 11 Mile Road, right next to the library. You can park behind the library and find the entrance to the city offices. If you are not familiar with it, you may pass it right by on Jefferson. It is also across from the police station. The city offices are very clean and well kept and staff are pleasant and nice. You can pay any city bills here, water, taxes and the like, as well as find permits for work. more
