Spice and Curry, as promised, is ""sublime and beautiful."" When I want a decadent Navaratana Kurma simmered in heavy cream and even heavier spices, I'd be amiss to look anywhere else. There are at least 5 Indian places that are closer to my house than Spice and Curry, but the trek is completely worth it. I prefer ordering off the menu, but the lunch buffet is superior to most, with many more vegetarian options and a higher than average basic spice level. The samosas aren't too dry and the mango lassi is perfectly cooling. What can I say about the crisp, yet soft garlic naan except ""mmm."" I'm an Indian food fiendess, as my reviews might show. If you're looking for a light meal, then you should look elsewhere, but if you're looking for a light meal then Indian food isn't your best bet anyway. Go to Spice & Curry when you need to bliss out on mind altering spices and rich, luxuriant sauces. more

S&C NowaDays 2/9/2010

I have been to S&C many times. But nowadays It has changed. Taste gone bad. Service very bad. Oil they use on chilli chicken ,poori and tandoori chicken smells bad. May be old oil. They are reusing, that too on peak hours(sunday after noon). I wonder how much stock of bad oil these people have :). On lunch buffet, they intentionally delay the refills. I have the experience of waiting more than 30mins for some items. Still I didnt get that. If you think the preparation may take time for some items, they do this for fruits too. I dont think it will take more than 15mins to cut a cantaloupe. I think this is how they match the so called reduced buffet price. Cons: bad taste and bad service more

Best indian Food in RTP 12/18/2008

My family is from India and we really enjoy eating here. I will say that the lunch buffet on weekdays is a little Americanized. But if you order off the menu you get the real deal. The weekend buffet is as good as ordering off the menu any day. Weekday lunches are cater to the RTP lunch crowd and the evening and weekends to the Indian Community. Pros: Authentic food, Cons: Parking more

Super Buffet !! 12/12/2008

Buffet was like one of those Las Vegas ones. It has a lot of items on the buffet. Most of the dishes were good. Rich and a fulfilling experience. Their authentic South Indian delicacies have a lot to portray about Indian dining. more

Still the best Indian food in Durham 11/21/2008

Very tasty!. The buffet during lunch is good with many choices but even the same dishes eaten at dinner pack more flavor and spice. Very good food the best in town. Very many vegetarian choices! Pros: food, atmooshpere ok for kids or romance Cons: location, not many customers (pro??) more

Spice & Curry has gone rogue 11/6/2008

It's like the Twilight Zone at Spice & Curry. The food isn't as good as it used to be. A Buy-one-get-one-free coupon suddenly equals random dollar amounts taken off with no explanation. Not only has the waitstaff forgotten the concept of refilling water and providing freaking RICE with your food, but they also lost the aptitude to understand English as well. And the ability to get change after you've already paid them for your meal. Plus little kids will run around and whap your white friends in the face with balloons. Oh, and the parking lot has suddenly been taken over by the cast of 4 Fast 4 Furious. Put simply, it's a nightmare, Pros: Food used to be good, close to RTP Cons: Forgetful waitstaff, don't honor coupons, unprofessional service more

Best Indian Food In Triangle Area 9/21/2008

I have reviewed all the recomendation before my lunch to Spice & Curry. Now Food is excellent and customer service is improved than earlier management. I found that cheffs had highly educated hotel managment. Pros: Excellent food, Cons: floor appearnce need to be improved more

Very poor customer service and professionalism. 8/18/2008

We (about 5 people group) used to visit this restaurant often during lunch hours but since management changed from early 2008, the quality is no more. Pros: Spacious function Area; No waiting needed duing lunch hours; Cons: Food quality and taste; poor customer service and lack of professionalism; Air condition in Hall area(function area) does not work; No bar area; Projector in hall area does not work; more

Best Indian so-far 8/17/2008

My wife and I love this place. We've gone for dinners and the weekend buffet. I agree with an earlier reviewer that the quality at the buffet is not as good. However, you get to taste a little of everything. When we go for dinner we let loose and order different kinds of naan and appetizers. Everything is so good. We are very happy with the service. It feels like you are the only one there. They wait on you hand and foot and make you feel like you are very welcome there. The atmosphere is a come as you are kind of place. It is clean and comfortable. I can't recommend anything in particular because I get something different everytime I go. Everything I've had has been 5 star quality though. Give this place a try-you won't be dissapointed. Pros: Easy location, good service, great food. Cons: Weekend buffet isn't as good as the dinners. more

this must e the best indian cuisine in N.C. 6/23/2008

our team of 12 members from various corners of india were upset at all the other restaurants in triangle area for one or more reasons. but lunch on a monday at this restaurant made our tasting buds craving for more and each of us had sumptious meal. there were almost 20 dishes and all of relished on everything.though the waiting staff seem to be inexperienced we continued to be there for the next couple of weeks dining either for lunch or dinner. every thing was of homemde style nad richness of restaurants.i suggest every one of my friends try this restaurant. Pros: VERY TASTY AND AUTHENTIC DISHES Cons: WAITING STAFF ARE INEXPERIENCED more

Great for dinner, so-so lunch buffet 10/31/2007

I've had dinner here a few times ordering off the menu and every time has been excellent! Probably some of the best Indian around (many of my Indian friends agree). I was however disappointed with the weekday lunch buffet. It just wasn't the same flavors or quality that I was used to from the dinner menu. I prefer the weekday lunch buffet at Sitar Indian Palace in Durham which has been pretty reliable (though not perfect) in terms of quality and flavor. Also, in my opinion, the weekend buffet at Tandoor Indian (NC55) is the best around--fresh naan delivered to your table and somosas at the buffet ( I can't speak for their weekday buffet). Pros: Great for dinner--order off the menu! more

Better than Sitar 5/18/2007

If you like middle-of-the road Indian that caters to the not-too-daring crowd, Sitar is your place. Spice and Curry typically has more adventurous dishes on their menu and the quality is better, in my opinion. Weekdays cater a little bit more to the RTP crowd, but the offerings on the weekends bring out the Indian ex-pats who know what good Indian food really is. My friends and I always argue about which is better - Sitar or Spice and Curry so you can't go wrong with either, but my money's on S & C. Pros: Affordable lunch buffet, Great food, Better than average selections on buffet Cons: Decor, Real busy at lunchtime more

Worst Indian food in the Triangle. 4/3/2007

In an area with such a large Indian community, plus a plethora of Indian restaurants within a few miles of each other, this restaurant has to be the worst Indian food I have ever eaten in my life (and I've been around the block a few times with Indian food). My meal was soupy (when it should never have been) - it seemed like they had leftovers from the buffet, watered it down, and added some green peppers for extra spice. What was worse than that was when I started to use the naan to help balance out the lackluster food, the naan was undercooked in spots or overcooked in others. The other meal we got was exactly the same way - watered down and nasty. I wish we had just ordered take-out from Bombay Grille down the block. If we had gotten this food in their restaurant instead of take-out, we would never have eaten it and/or paid for it. Save yourself time, money, and your tastebuds - choose some other Indian restaurant to eat at. more
