I signed a contract with Dean Downing from SouthLand Contracting in May of 2010 for an outdoor patio/kitchen. We wanted a paver patio with a four foot back and side wall with cook island and fire pit. Dean assured us the job could be completed in 3-4 weeks. As of Feb. 11, 2011 the job is still not complete. He never had a crew that worked every day. The workers changed so no one knew what was going on. Dean eventually stopped working on our job because he told other sub contractors that there wasnt any money left in it. I guess because he paid guys to stand around doing nothing the first two weeks, so there isn't any money to finish the job unless Dean pays workers out of his own pocket now. He hasnt been to my job site in months. He hasnt answered or returned a phonecall in as long. He only responded to a text my husband sent to him to advise that we are working with our lawyer now. The quality of the project is horrible. The corners are uneven and sloppy. Every cap tile surface is uneven and unlevel. I have had to re purchase travertine stone wall caps because of cutting errors made by a worker. The kitchen island is a full inch lower at one end. There isn't one aspect of our project that is even useable. After 8 months we still don't have a finished project.....huge disappointment. We were even told by a subcontractor that did work for Dean Downing in the past that if we ended up in court, he would testify on our behalf. Three other sub contractors we know of had trouble being paid for work they did. We just want our project fixed and completed.
