South Restaurant

So we go here on a Sunday when it is 100 degrees outside for lunch. Since it was extremely hot and we were out running around for the day I had on a tank top. As we walked up to the restaurant we noticed a sign on the front door saying sleeveless shirts not allowed. I figured it was related to the evening hours. We walked in and the whole staff had a fit about my shirt and everyone in the place was staring at me. The bartender went running behind the bar and got me a budweiser shirt to put on. I was so embarrased. The waitress then comes up to us and tells me to hurry up and put it on because if the boss sees he is going to have a fit. I can understand this rule in a higher end restaurant but not this type of place! Next thing we realize is that ALL of the decor in the place is pictures of a Bronco player, well come to find out the owner of the place is said former Bronco player. It made it feel like a shrine and was just weird. The whole staff of the place were acting scared of the man as well, I felt bad for them. \r \r In a nutshell we will not be back. Any place that would rather turn away business due to a tank top on a record breaking heat day is not a place for me. Especially a place as dingy as this one. more

I was excited to try a new Mexican restaurant close to home! There are many options in and around Englewood, however we wanted to give The South a shot. Never again! First, you HAVE to wear sleeves... if you don't, everyone freaks out and says ""the big boss will get upset with you!"" They gave my friend a Budweiser shirt to wear so that we could enter the dining room. The entire time, the wait staff looked anxious and selective of what and how they would say things. They kept glancing over to ""the table"" where the big boss sits and explained he usually comes in at 11:30am. This owner must be a tyrant and full of himself. This restaurant is a shrine to this man who played for the Broncos back in the 70's. I felt the atmosphere was more a sports bar which had dance music playing instead of Mexican music and flare. This restaurant has an identity crisis, scared wait staff, obnoxious rules (no sleeves, no service)and a tyrant for a owner. Where is Gordon Ramsey when you need him??? This would be a challenge for him! more

Been go to ""The South"" since 1982. Hands down, the BEST Fajita's any ware. All their food is great. There mixed drinks have alcohol in them!! Oh yea! Service is excellent. I love this place. I was hesitant to write this review because I don't want the place so busy that I have to wait to get in! more

Hands down, this is where we go for margaritas! The patio is great, the staff is fun and quirky, and the atmosphere is always buzzing. This place is never empty. I'm not always impressed by the food. It's a bit more Tex-Mex than authentic, but is still often tasty. The portions are good for the price. Pros: excellent margaritas, patio, laid back atmosphere Cons: inconsistent food quality more

The Mexican food here is outstanding and definitely one of the best deals in town. Friendly waitstaff and great margaritas. The South's homemade Q is tough to beat. more
