Very Disappointed 7/31/2008

A friend and I decided to give this place a try on a Saturday night as we are both into Spanish wine and food. We each ordered a glass of wine off their relatively small list (for a wine bar) and decided to order a few tapas. I opted for the dates wrapped in bacon ($8) and the mussels in white wine ($15), which were part of their special menu that night. Both were OK, but nothing out of the ordinary, especially for the price. My friend ordered the Tortilla Espanola ($4) and another item from their special menu: fresh figs filled with gorgonzola and almonds and wrapped in proscuitto with a balsamic glaze. She was unaware of the price, which she later found out was $11 for two small figs. The price aside, the dish was very, very bland and disappointing. As someone who's traveled throughout Spain extensively, my friend also said the tortilla was nothing like the version she'd enjoyed in Spain. In essence, she paid $15 for four bites of an omelet and two figs. \r \r I think the biggest disappointment of the night was the sangria. The bartender proudly said they have five varieties to choose from so I opted for the white sangria. It tasted just like watered down cherry 7-up. I couldn't taste any wine, any brandy or other liqueur, and it had a few tiny pieces of apple floating in it. When the bartender asked if I liked it, I said that it tasted like soda and that I did not care for it. He just shrugged it off and did not even offer me anything else.\r \r For the most part, the service and the atmosphere were good and they have a nice patio in the front. However, I do not plan on going back anytime soon. The lack of quality and authenticity, along with the high prices (although it is Cherry Creek, so I guess it is be expected) will certainly keep me from returning.\r Pros: Service, Ambience, People-watching Cons: Price, Selection, Authenticity more

Amazing! 2/13/2008

Me and a couple of friends went to Soleil for a casual dinner, and we all agreed that the food was absolutely outstanding! The roasted garlic was out of this world and our cheese plate was phenomenal. The atmosphere of the restaurant is reminiscent of Spain and the decor is tasteful and not imposing at all. The wine recommended by the waiter turned out to be perfect, and he even let me and my friend split a glass after we finished off the bottle. I have recommended this restaurant to EVERYONE I know. Pros: Atmosphere, food, wine Cons: pretty small - probably not good for large groups more

Fabulous Date Night 10/6/2007

What a great place for a date! The hostess was very friendly and welcoming. Our waitress, Corinne, was attentive, friendly, quick, and accomodating to all of our requests. The food was fantastic. We ordered olives, an antipasto plate, lamb kebobs, and shrimp and scallop kebobs. There was plenty of food and everything was well priced. We will defnitely go back and recommend it to others. Pros: Friendly, attentive service, nice menu Cons: Did not appear to be handicap accessible more

The Ultimate Dining Experience. 1/26/2007

I have never been to a Mediterranean Grille, such as this one. The wine selection had to be the best in town. I couldn't tell if the owner, David Pellegrin, had lived abroad, or just had the utmost best taste in wines. Food, was perfectly paired, with the wines. I absolutely have to say that, I will go there many times.\r When you walk into the restaurant, a benevolence comes about. Do you want to be romantic? Well then, you have to be in Soleil. Trust me, when I say to you, I guarantee that...if you love wines, and, love Mediterranean cuisine, sit outside. On a gorgeous Spring, Summer, or Fall eve....nothing compares. Pros: Everything Cons: Zip more

WE LOVE SOLEIL! 12/17/2006

We love your place! I felt compelled to to write a review after reading the Do Not Eat review, they must be mistaken, confused or certifiable. My wife and I live in Cherry Creek and frequently walk down to Soleil for a glass of wine and a quick bite to eat in the evenings or on the weekends. We've enjoyed Soleil's evolution, changing menus and friendly staff and owners. i have to admit, even though the restaurant is charming and romantic, whether on the patio or mezzanine, we tend to sit at the bar. We absolutely adore Bekah, one of the owners who is usally behind the bar or roaming the restaurant talking with customers. In short, at Soleil, you will find a cozy, romantic restaurant with great food & wine and a staff that makes you feel welcome and unrushed. Pros: Great Food, Wine, & Prices, Romantic, Friendly Staff, Unrushed Service, Free Parking Cons: Only Open for lunch on weekends more

An ideal neighborhood restaurant - cozy and intimate. 10/22/2006

Our group of four enjoyed a wide selection of excellent plates accompanied with good inexpensive wine. We enjoyed and appreciated Soleil's service and ambience. Pros: Wide selection of inexpensive plates. Cons: Could be cleaner. more

DO NOT EAT AT SOLEIL - awful food, sub-par tappas, hygiene & they use frozen bruschetta bread 9/2/2006

SOLEIL is a wanna be but cannot be tappas bar. When I sat at the table, the table was dirty & flies were all around. When I did see the hostess clean a nearby table, she then picked up the rolls of napkins without washing her hands. When I asked for Bruschetta, they said that the bread needed to be unfrozen. When I asked for wine, the glass was dirty. When I received my paella, it was very average w/ only minimal saffron used. Bottom line, don't waste your time here. My guests with me was suprised how small & unflavorful the food was also. Cons: Pretentious, Tight seating, bad public health standards more

Great relaxing place to hang 7/17/2006

Last Sunday we were looking for a place to eat and stumbled on this jewel of a restaurant in the heart of Cherry Creek. First of all the Food was fantastic. Small plates so we can try lots of different dishes (my favorite thing to do) Our waitress was friendly and attentive. Love it ! Love it, Love it ! \r \r I thought the food was reasonably priced $5 - 10 but the drinks were a little bit high. But the overall experience was fantastic. Being a small restaurant I can imagine it might get a little crowded. Pros: small plates to share more

Perfect place for a date! 1/30/2006

Tuesday I took a date to Soleil for drinks and to my surprise, have live Flamenco on Tuesday. Where do I begin; it is a charming, romantic, cozy wine bar in the heart of Cherry Creek. Even though we went to Soleil for a few drinks, once we saw the menu and food going to other tables, we could not resist. We tried five or six different items and loved everything; so much so that my date wanted to know how to make the roasted garlic. When the server informed the chef, he immediately came to our table and told her everything she needed to know and more. What a great experience! We will certainly be back. Pros: good value, charming, friendly more

My New Favorite Restaurant 1/23/2006

My wife & I stumbled upon this place one day while shopping in Cherry Creek. My miserable day shopping with my wife turned into a romantic afternoon sipping the hours away with a nice glass of wine on the beautiful patio. Soleil has a great tapas and small plates menu. In summary, we spent over three hours at Soleil and loved everything from the unrushed dining experience, attentive service, food, wine, & sangria! We will definitely be back frequently for the ambiance, friendly staff, great food, wine & value. Pros: ambiance, patio, friendly service more

Not a good experience 11/18/2005

First clue should have been when the server recommended the cheese plate, but did not know what cheeses were on it. That, and my wifes wine glass had soap in it. After notifying them, we got a new glass, but not even a 'sorry'. Every dish we tried was dismal, save for the roasted garlic and tapenade, which was somewhere just north of OK. The seared duck was one of the more awful things I've ever put in my mouth, and the lamb was medium well at best, and the spice/sauce it came with was utterly tasteless. I'd have sent it back if I didn't want to just get out. In short, I'm an adventurous eater, but I'll never return here. more

Cherry Creek perfect 11/13/2005

One of our favorites. Great space, very comfortable. The tapas are perfect for sampling and sharing and always delicious. The patio in the summer is perfect for sipping on sangria. Dont miss Happy hour (4-7) for great food and drink specials. more
