I am an Animal Rescuer. I have used many kennels for my own dogs and my rescue dogs. No one gives my animals the care and love that this kennel does. My dogs start barking as soon as I enter the driveway. I am a knowledgable client-I can call anytime and they know exactly what is going on with my animals. I have been using them for over 8 years. Love both the owners. more

The Best in Atlanta 1/6/2012

I moved to ATL just over a year ago and visited most of the well known kennels in the area. HANDS DOWN this is the best!!!! So many of the kennels around town just warehouse their four legged guests. My Bassett Cheyenne is loved and cared for here and doesn't want to leave most of the time. The drive is not as easy and convenient as the others, but who cares. The peace of mind I have knowing Cheyenne is safe, loved and happy makes that a minor issue. Take note of the hours for letting your dog off and for pick up. If you follow and respect the hours of operation there will be only a pleasant interaction with the owners. These are very kind people anyone who has experienced an unkind word from them MUST have done something to deserve it. Debbie Peters more

Excellent Kennel 12/31/2010

We live in Virginia Highlands and drive out to Smith Farms (30 minutes) and are delighted with them. Very professional detail oriented owners that take great care of our dog. A pleasure to deal with and our dog comes home healthy and happy. more

If you have just moved here. Find somewhere else to board. 10/14/2010

I have boarded my dogs in states of CA, NV, IL, IA, MO & Atlanta. Not ever hav I had any negative comments regarding my dogs. In fact, all staff in all kennels loved them. They actually stayed in a MO kennel for 30 days which is a very long time but did very well adjusting. I moved here 4 months ago and kenneled them at Smith Farms. My intial feeling are described as not feeling any warmth with the owner. However, I had been on the road 10 days and moved here for work and did not know anyone in Atlanta and this was the closest kennel to my work. Plus the reviews seemed ok. It is now 4 months later and I am leaving for the weekend and needed to board my dogs. The owner of Smith Farms told another boarding place that my dogs were not friendly and did not warm up to them. Thus, I was denied. I called Smith and they did return my call as I was trying to investigate what they had disclosed. The good thing was I had them at daycare (of whom I will name) for temperment testing yesterday, the kennel feel in love with them and will be keeping them this weekend. I really feel as though Smith Farms did not take into consideration adjustment issues and maybe my dogs just didn't feel safe there or didn't like the staff. I have breed Japanese Akita's for 10 years and fostered shelter dogs for 5. I just really feel as though Smith Farms does not understand how to help dogs adjust. So, in short if you're moving to Atlanta DONT SEND THEM HERE. Go to Wagging Tails or Rex and Roxy's. more

GINA LOVES SMITH FARMS BOARDINS KENNEL;SO DO i 9/22/2010

Gina, a Chihuahua mixed, has been going to the kennel for the past 2 years, and she loves it. When we are going up the driveway and she realizes she is at the kennel, she becomes very excited. Her tail starts wagging, and she begins to squeal as she does when she is happy! Twice the staff member met us at the car and took Gina in her arms into the kennel. Both times when saw the staff member she got so excited she had an accident. I do not worry about Gina when she is there. Her behavior tells me that she is treated well and loved.\r Before discovering Smith Boarding Kennel, I had visited four other kennels. Two did not meet my approval. I tried the other two, but was dissatisfied with both after using them one time. Finally, I asked the staff in Gina’s veterinarian’s office about a recommendation, and she gave information on Smith Boarding Kennel. \r WHEN GINA IS HAPPY, I AM HAPPY!\r Gloria Robinzine \r more

Excellent 6/16/2009

I have been boarding my pets here for 8 years. These people are the best. They care for my babies almost as well as I. \r The facility is the cleanest I have ever boarded or visited. Pros: Great care and staff Cons: Hours more

AWFUL - DO NOT USE THIS KENNEL 3/2/2008

DO NOT USE THIS KENNEL. The owners are arrogant, rude and do not honor their agreements. We dropped our dog off on a Sat. and specifically asked one of the owners if it would be allright if we picked him up on our way home from the airport the next Fri. Gave her the time we should arrive and also asked if we would have to pay for an additional day since it should only be 10 - 20 minutes past the cutoff time for departures. She assured us this would not be a problem to pick him up and we wouldn?t be charged for an additional day. We arrived at 12:10, no one answered the bell. We waited for 15 minutes then left a note on the door. We went to lunch thinking the owners might be on break as well, came back 1 hour later. The gate was closed but not locked. We opened the gate to the driveway and drove to the kennel. Rang the bell again, still no response at the kennel door. My husband went up to their house to see if everything was allright and was treated VERY rudely - told to come back at 5:00 and then had the door shut in his face. He came down to the kennel to pick me up, telling me we had to come back at 5:00. While picking me up, the two owners stomped down to the kennel and proceeded to bless us out. When I reminded the same owner who agreed to let us pick him up on our way home of our conversation, she very arrogantly told me ""You were talking so much when you dropped him off, telling me what I needed to be done for him (the dog) that you didn't listen to me."" They continued to speak hatefully the entire 20 minutes we were there. They charged us for the extra day as well as charging us $8.00 per time they played ball with our dog. We chose not to argue and paid their demands as we just wanted to get our dog out safely and leave. I shall tell everyone I know DO NOT USE THIS KENNEL. They may have made an extra day out of us, but they lost any future business from us or our family and friends. I definitely wouldn't feel comfortable leaving my dog there again. Cons: Owners are rude and arrogant and do not honor agreements more

For boarding, these gals are the BEST! 9/7/2006

Smith Farm had come recommended by my then employer as she knew we were as particular about who watched our babies as she was about hers. She'd used Smith Kennel for years, as has proven true for us (about 8 yrs now).\r \r Unlike other reviewers here, I have only ever had positive, open communication with any of the staff members at Smith Farms. When we first interviewed them for hosting our dogs, they made sure to not only get acquainted w/ the animals but w/ us as well. They were clear on what they needed from me and asked many questions, making sure they knew what we wanted for our pet. \r \r When we made an addition to our pet family, and he seemed to have issues w/ being aggressive w/ dogs unfamiliar to him, they went out of their way to keep him well tended and loved w/out putting him w/ the rest of the animals. they ensured his care and behavior before they risked a disaster. \r \r They must kennel 100+ dogs at a time, but the place is so CLEAN you wouldn't think they had even a handful. They feed high-quality food and administer any meds as required by your vet. For a fee, they will pick up and deliver. My dogs have always come back happy and clean and are always eager to return once they know where they're going.\r \r I HIGHLY recommend Smith Farm Kennels to any and every Atlanta area dog owner. \r \r Pros: cleanliness, friendliness, price more

I love this place 6/16/2006

I found the staff to be wonderful. There are only 2 ladies working, if you call when they are taking care of the dogs, you might not get them. They were extremely friendly with my husband and I. When you deal with a kennle full of dogs, it has to be done their way to ensure enjoyment and safety.\r \r We left our dog there in February 2006. It was the first time I actually felt guilty when I took him home. Their love for the animals is clear. My dog had so much fun. He came home clean and with the softest paws. I reccomend this place to all of my dog loving friends. The dog has his own sleeping and hanging out space, then is let out several times a day for group play if he is of good temperment.\r \r Not only is it the best place...it's the best value! It's very inexpensive. I do wish it was closer to Metro Atlanta. If it were, my dog would go a few times a month. If it's too far for you, call them, they will even come and pick your dog up!\r \r I also like the fact that the owners live so close. Should anything happen, the could be there in seconds unlike other area kennels. Pros: Staff, value, dog loves it Cons: distance from Metro Atlanta more

Good kennel for dogs that need individual runs 1/23/2006

I agree with the previous reviewer. Good kennel, they treat my dog very well. She loves going there and is always very relaxed and clean when I pick her up. However, the people that work there need a little customer-comunication training. I never worry about my dog when she is there, but I do wish I would communication with the staff more effectively. Pros: they love dogs!, indoor/outdoor runs, Sunday pickups Cons: far from central ATL, poor communication more

The Good and the Bad 10/9/2005

The facility is extremely clean and dogs love to visit. The staff truly seem to love dogs, but seem to have issues when dealing with their human customers. On more than one occasion, staff members have been very rude. It is a hard choice. You know your dogs will be well cared for, but do you give them your business with all of the other fine kennels in the area? This is one customer who decided to find a kennel that treats it pet owners as well as it treats her pets. more
