Siam Society

I love this new restaurant on NE Alberta. That area is rocking and the Siam Society is the best Thai Restaurant I've ever been in. They have managed to do something really new and interesting. I'm not a big drinker, but their drinks could change that. I would suggest this place to anyone who wants great Thai food for a very reasonable price. After reading all the positive press about Siam Society, I was a little worried it wouldn't live up to it....was I wrong! It exceeded all my expectations and I honestly didn't want to leave when they closed! Amazing Thai food with a hint of otherworldly exotic flair-----very interesting and yummy speciality drinks (try the Hibiscus Mojito) complete with friendly bartender.....add great service, friendly and welcoming owners, and an unbelievably amazing atmosphere and you can NOT go wrong here! I really love this restaurant! You know what I love about this restaurant? It's that you get really fantastic food AND SERVICE for a reasonable price in a great environment. You can see that that owners care about what you think and that they are offering something better to the public over your average restaurant. If you think about it, the food is much cheaper than any of the other restaurants on Alberta and you get to enjoy it in a wonderful environment with professional service. I was sorry to see that one reviewer had a bad time at the Siam Society. I have been there several times and have always recieved great service. As for the food, I have not ordered a bad dish yet. I especially like the chang mai sausage and the spicy sauteed eggplant. I think their phad thai is great, perhaps that previous reviewer missed the taste of the ketchup that's usually squeezed into phad thai in most other thai restaurants. The service was some of the best I've had in any restaurant and in my opinion the food was fantastic. While we did order and eat the most ubiquitous (and in my opinion - most boring) Thai meal on the planet (Pad Thai) there, I did feel it was the most authentic version of Pad Thai I've eaten in the US. The only thing that could have made the dish more authentic would be the tiny salty shrimp that is essential for real Bangkok Pad Thai. We started off with the Calamari (excellent!), then had the Phad Thai with Prawns, Phad Kee Mao Beef and Chicken Massaman curry. The Massaman curry with chicken was by far the best dish I've had in any restaurant in ages! I say that having grown up in Bangkok. Arroy Mach Mach! Pretty much like to echo the remarks that reviewer bobcure stated. I was a bit apprehensive about yet one more Thai restaurant opening on Alberta, but I would have to say that it is perhaps one of, if not the best Thai restaurants I've been to to date, both in food quality and service. Good local draft beer selections, imaginative/tasty drink options. Very friendly staff and excellently prepared food. We couldn't stop eating the Panang Curry with beef. The curry was to die for! I have to admit that I was not excited hearing that another Thai restaurant was opening on Alberta, but I'm so glad I tried it anyway. The food is wonderful, subtle, spicy and flavorful, not just hot. They have a great happy hour menu, good cocktails, and great service. Very friendly, attentive but not too much so. I've been eating Thai food for years now, and I thought I knew what to expect from every Thai restaurant. Quite frankly, Thai food was getting a bit boring for me. Then Siam Society comes along and kicks everything up a notch. Well, more than a notch...the restaurant is located in the old Alberta Sub Station which they've remodeled into something spectacular. The service is great. They actually greet you at the door and make you feel welcome unlike most Thai restaurants. Siam Society is classy, the food is outstanding and the service is refined. The mixed drinks are out of this world. Try the Ginger lime cosmo. From now on, I am only spending money at restaurants which actually appreciate my business.
