I must say that the variety of products is pretty decent though their prices aren't always competitive. They know that they corner the market in their area as far as larger grocery stores and for a lot of people, there isn't much choice. The customer service is beyond sub-par. The cashiers and baggers barely acknowledge customers except to ask if we want paper or plastic and to tell us an amount. Sometimes, I am made to feel as though I am an unwelcome guest. Even more annoying is seeing them reading the magazines only to put them back, and EVERYONE seems to be eating constantly. There are bags of chips and soda bottles lining the back wall between both entrance doors. That kind of grosses me out.
But the very WORST experience I had was when I was walking by the bakery and the baker was making things. My 5 year old daughter pointed out that there was a lady smoking in there. Sure enough, a female (whom I later found out was a MANAGER) was smoking while the baker was baking. I went to the customer service counter to complain to the manager... who turned out to be the lady smoking. I told her that it was a health code violation and she ripped into me quite loudly in front of people. I told her in response that it was not only a health code violation, but against the law. She told me it was none of my business and they were allowed to smoke as long as it wasn't near customers. Apparently, it's ok to drop ashes in my food or where it's being made.
I called the day shift manager and told him everything, I also called the health department. I no longer shop there unless I absolutely cannot get anywhere else. But with the new Save-A-Lot where customer service and prices are all amazing- there's less needs for trips to Shop 'N Save.
The only reason I am giving them a 1 is because I cant give less than that. Health code violations and disgusting customer service don't deserve even half a star.
