Shinners & Chasnis, specifically Hope Ziehm, has been a complete pleasure to work with in renting my house out to very good renters. Being active duty military and a thousand miles away was challenging, but working with Hope has been such a stress relief. I have lived in a two bedroom apartment in Carrollton for over 3 years and would highly recommend Shinners & Chasnis. I moved in shortly after they became owners and since that time they have gone above and beyond to make sure that my stay is satisfactory. They have made a lot of improvements to the apartments. The management and maintenance staff are pleasant to work with and have always responded to my requests. more

I rented from Shinners & Chasnis for nearly two years. I have nothing but positive things to say about my experience. I was transferred to the Saginaw region for work and had very little time to find housing. Heidi quickly arranged a showing of an apartment and got everything taken care of for me within about a week.\r \r The laundry machines always worked--something that I have never experienced in my 10+ years of renting. There was a covered parking space for every apartment, and only a few extra spaces--something that I appreciated as it kept down on excessive guests.\r \r In general the building was quiet. Any problem neighbors were dealt with quickly and appropriately, which I appreciated. It always seemed that the office was responsive to any problems that I was having. I usually drove over to the office on lunch the first day of the month to drop off a check. Heidi, Jacob and Hope were always approachable and asked how everything was at the building. The majority of the building tenants lived there when I moved in and were still there when I left. The only ones that came and went were what I would consider ""problem"" tenants, but those were few and far between.\r \r When it came time to move, they got my deposit check back to me in about 30 days, which is pretty consistent with good landlords that I have had. Overall, no complaints. more

AVOID SHINNERS AND CHASNIS AT ALL COST!\r Never rent from these people, the prey on the poorest of the poor!\r Our apartment complex was flooded, we were homeless for two months and they hobbled together our apartments, POORLY. We're still dealing with mold!\r They are always unavailable when trying to contact them on the phone. They do not cash your checks on time and they do not give you receipts either. The maintenance men don't ever call to check with tenants they have barged in on my roommate and I multiple times, often early in the morning. I cannot wait for my lease to be done with these slumlords!\r AVOID Shinners and Chasnis at all costs, it's not worth it. more

AVOID AT ALL COSTS 12/11/2011

Shinners and Chasnis is a commercial realty business that knows absolutely nothing about customer service or how to treat their tenants. They are constantly unavailable when trying to contact them on the phone. Their business hours are supposed to be from Monday-Friday 9:00am-4:00pm, with an hour for lunch from 12:00pm - 1:00pm. They take longer than a hour for lunch and are hardly ever there at 9:00a.m. to open the business. They don't write receipts for anything, rent, deposit, any cash, check or money order given. They have a secretary, Hope Ziehm, that needs a couple classes on business ethics and customer service. She is rude. She doesn't return phone calls. She frequently gives verbal agreements, that she often "doesn't remember" setting up. She threatens, weekly, to begin an eviction process for tenants that are behind in paying for rent, which she never follows through. In the lease, tenants are not supposed to have pets, but there are multiple tenants on the Bauer Drive apartments that have dogs, that bark constantly and leave feces on the parking lot and in the grass. Hope has said to never give rent to the in house landlords, because she doesn't trust them and has "issues in the past" with them stealing rent money from tenants. The parking lot and walkways are never clean when there is a heavy snow. I have witnessed multiple tenants with children, slip and fall walking to their cars in the morning. The maintenance men don't ever call to check with tenants if they can come into their apartments when they are not home. They also don't leave any note in the apartment saying what they fixed and how long they were in the apartment. This business doesn't know how to treat their tenants and the better business bureau should know that and inform other unsuspecting people to AVOID Shinners and Chasnis at all costs.
