As a former student and teacher for SEN, Mr. Gary Shimabukuro is a top notch teacher. Where others teach you how to play songs, Gary teaches you music. Even though I have had lessons from the best (Ohta-san and Kahauanu Lake), Gary's approach was through music theory. Gary does not play ukulele, guitar, or bass, but his knowledge of music and methods of teaching quickly helped me connect the dots. I started teaching for him. After I had a stroke, I started teaching for myself so I didn't have to travel so far. The knowledge I gained from Gary allowed me to teach others including mandolin and banjo players (though I don't play either instruments). Gary is a professional who knows the ins and outs of the music industry.
