My wife and I stayed for only one night at the Sheppard?s Place B&B because we couldn?t stand the thought of staying any longer. This place is NOT a bed and breakfast. When we arrived, the management did not even have record that we reserved the room over a month in advance. There was no one there at first, so we had to call and the owner told us to let ourselves inside through the open door in the back of the house. She had no idea where we were supposed to stay, but we found what we assumed to be our room downstairs and we immediately noticed how musty and dank it was. There was mold along the insides of the shower, there was no ventilation in the room and very little light, and our room smelled like pets. We found that the ?B&B? has no restrictions on pets and their website says nothing about this fact. (Although, there was a spray-canister of ?Cat Urine Sanitizer? on top of the kitchen refrigerator ? so maybe at least the customers cleaned). They were horribly disorganized ? for instance, we had to ask for the wireless internet password and the owner?s son did not give it to us as he promised until the next day when we asked again. After staying the night, my wife and I both had headaches because of the smell and mustiness, so I asked the owner if we could switch our room. The owner appeared agitated at my description of the room being ?musty? (maybe she doesn?t go down there), but her son suggested we stay ?in [his] room.? While this sounded like a generous sacrifice, he showed me the room (literally, just his bed with a closet) and straightened up the bed sheets like he had just been laying on the bed ? as if that is what goes for ?preparing a room.? After seeing this, my wife and I decided to use the internet password, belatedly bestowed, and used it to book a different place for the night. Sheppard?s Place is not like their website advertises! If you are looking for a place in RI to stay, try a different B&B, a hotel, or even a hostel for that matter. JUST DON?T GO HERE.
