I visited this salon after an acquaintance recommended it. I've been seeking a new stylist since 2005 and I'd hoped this salon, located near my home, might offer a good prospect. \r

Due to some earlier unfortunate experiences with bad haircuts I reported to my appointment with several photos of how my naturally wavy/curly hair looks when it is properly cut and styled. The stylist claimed my current haircut, a choppy shaggy bob/mullet hybrid ""looked about the same"" as the pictures.\r

That should have been my warning to pick up my bag and flee but after combing through my hair she agreed she recognized that some of the layers were uneven and were creating gaps and flips in my hair. So I hoped that since she could recognize the errors she could also correct them. She didn't dry my hair after cutting it so I didn't see how it looked until after that evening's shower. Much of the naturally wavy pattern and been layered and redirected to try and make it lie flat. The curls flipped and stuck out in awkward disorderly shape all around my face and head. One side was visually shorter, had more layers, and had deeper layering than the opposite side. Given the trendy ""edgy"" looks popular in hairstyling today I was probably very ""updated looking"" but this ""update"" did nothing for the natural texture of my hair, face shape or facial proportions.\r

It took a $100 session with a master stylist in an alternative salon to get my hair back to the more romantic curving softly layered curls I love. I think the Hair Center stylist gave me a cut that would have worked if my hair was straight or I was a teenager interested in more trendy looks. If I've learned anything in the past two years it's that not all stylists understand how to cut curls or wavy hair correctly and that they won't admit it if you ask them. I will be visiting the master stylist from now on even if I have to budget more carefully and limit my visits to the salon.
Pros: Friendly staff, laid-back informal atmosphere.
Cons: Did not get cut of my preference and salon does not accept credit cards
