No taste food. 6/7/2010

On 5-31-2010 my party of 5(3 adults, 2 children) ate lunch. My son and I ordered the supposed crab melt. Absolutely no crab meat in it (not even a sliver) and the ""cheesey sauce was just cheese, not even a hint of crab ""flavor""!!! Their menu does read ""crab"". Our bill came to $75.00 plus tip.I have been a resident of Sewickley coming up on 7 years. I used to think the Hotel was the best restaurant in town, no more!! Cons: No flavor/overpriced more

Terrible experience 5/15/2010

We were excited to try Sewickley Hotel & stay and listen to the music playing in the bar section. After an hour of waiting for our order (cheeseburger & chicken), the waitress assured us it was coming, the kitchen forget our order. We didn't mind because we had our drinks. She offered us green beans, which were great but we were starving. My burger was $13.99 & the chicken was $20. We did notice the table next to ours had to send back their food twice & another got up and left w/out even ordering. It was odd to see only a few patrons in the restaurant on a Sat nite, I was worried it was going to be crowded. The chef came out & asked why we were eating just green beans on a plate & we told him we were waiting for our food. He went into kitchen (our seats were right next to kitchen door) & 5 min later our food came out & it was good but again- $14 for a burger?!? After 20 min or so, the chef came around again & asked if we'd like dessert. We both declined. He insisted & brought out a apple pie-type dessert & took our plates at which time I pointed out that we ate 1/2 of the chicken dish & would like it wrapped for tomorrows lunch. Neither of us ate the wierd looking dessert & requested the ck & our leftovers so we could go to the bar & listen to the music. Our waitress informed us the chef threw away our food. At this point we both laughed because we had been in the restaurant for 2 hrs, ate 1/2 meal & were completely shocked at the entire evening. She did apologize many times, it wasn't her fault. She asked him to adjust our ck due to the severe wait times & throwing away our food. He said ""no,we ate most of the meal & he would not adj our bill."" Of course we heard him through the kitchen door & promply paid our bill & left. It was a horrible experience, one that we both are still shocked about. Looking back, it makes sense why there were so few patrons & why 2 of the other tables had issues as well. We will not return there & advise anyone going to have alot of time, alot of money & hold onto your plates if you don't finish your meal. The management could have handled our situation (& the others) so much better----its too bad because we really enjoy going to family run restaurants & support the locals. This local joint will not be one of them. Cons: Chef comments/high prices more

Good if you've got more money than sense 12/12/2006

To be certain, the food is good. However, the prices are not aligned with the quality of the food. One thing to remember is that this is basically a pub for the Sewickley gentry. If spending $17 on a steak sandwich is a reasonable purchase for you, then by all means eat here. If you think that $30 for a steak is out of line, then you're not going to be happy here. $7 for a raspberry beer? $10 for a hamburger? $6 for the privilege of splitting a dish?\r To pay $75 for two people to dine at a bar where there are racial epithets carved into the filthy bathroom walls seems a bit unreasonable to me. Perhaps it's a charming experience for the gentry to come down to the village and ""slum it"" with us residents. I, however, am unimpressed. Pros: Food is good, atmosphere is kind of charming Cons: Unreasonable prices for what you get more

mmm...crabcakes 1/8/2003

When i went there for the first time, it was ""light up night,"" in Sewickley on one of the coldest evenings of the year! But after we had a few lusciuos Appletinis, and some of their succulent crabcakes, i was thawed out and in the Christmas spirit in no time!!! Pros: romantic lighting, great drinks, great atmosphere Cons: no space!!!, long wait, closes too early more
