We tried a Saturday brunch at Seven 30 South to celebrate some family birthdays. The omelettes, eggs benedict, etc. that we ordered were fine--nothing extraordinary, but fine for brunch fare. I personally appreciated that they had a Gluten Free menu. However, in all of our interactions with the hostess, she was terse, sullen, and unprofessional. First, no one was at the hostess podium when we arrived, so a man in the bar area greeted us and started to seat us. The hostess arrived as he was getting our menus, and stood there sullenly without a greeting while he took us to our table. They had arranged a table with eight chairs for our party of seven, four on each side of three tables placed together. This was fine, but as we were getting settled we noticed that one of us would be left hanging out on one end with an empty chair across from them, so we thought it would be better to remove one of the tables and place a chair at the head. I approached the unsmiling hostess and asked her in a friendly manner if that would be ok. She just stood there with a ""why the hell would you want to do that?"" expression. As I tried to explain why, and she just continued to glare. Thankfully, our waitress overheard and knew what I meant. She immediately took care of our request. Next, the hostess helped deliver our plates, but my Gluten Free order came out with a croissant on top of the food. I said that I had ordered Gluten Free, to which she pursed her lips and put the plate back on the tray. My dad started to explain that I would need a new plate since even a crumb would make me sick, and she snapped, ""I understand."" Our waitress came to the table a moment later and did the professional thing: apologized for the mix up and told us a new plate would be out shortly. There were a few more minor interactions in which the hostess continued to act put off and annoyed. That really soured our experience. Even with our nice waitress and the OK brunch fare, I am not eager to return or recommend Seven 30 South. Perhaps if you get a different hostess you'll have a better experience.
Pros: Food OK, waitress helpful
Cons: Hostess should find another job she enjoys more
