GREEDY for MONEY 10/31/2013

I Email Mr. Richards, that my son don't want to continue his Tae Kwon Do anymore. And inform that my Family Financial Situation. That we don't have enough Money to pay my son Monthly dues of $99. I try my best to explain to him about this. But he keep insisting that his School have Financial Company who handles their payment. That he didn't explain it to my wife. We thought that were paying straight on his School. I ask him to if he can tell his Financial Company about my Family Situation. Even i explain to him, that my wife didn't get enough hours from her work. And I'm the only one shouldering all our Family Bills. Mr. Richards keep saying that he have no control or powers on that Financial Company of his. But the Billing Statement shows that the Billing Company address on his School. 22803 44th Ave W. Mountlake Terrace WA 98043. Phone number of his Financial Company, also direct to his office. I don't know if this Mr. Richards is telling the truth or lying about his Financial Company. more

Dont do it! 7/19/2013

I would give no stars if possible. Our experience with the owner of Seattle Tae Kwon Do has been terrible. Poor customer service. Even when trying to work to get out of the first year agreement in writing, with a doctor's recommendation for our son to stop, this business has refused, always deferring to their lawyers. They have threatened us with lawyer letters saying our medical recommendation is not valid since our son is basically not fully disabled, or dead for that matter. And since their relocation exception is 25 miles from STKD, you would have to move all the way to Marysville in order to get out of it; not even moving to Everett gets you to terminate the contract early! At the time we wrote several letters letting this owner know that 1) we moved to North Lynnwood and were unable to attend; 2) the primary after school child care provider (grandfather) had just being diagnosed with cancer, going through chemotherapy, so we were not able to arrange transportation to STKD; and 3) our son's anxiety level every time he went to this school somehow continued to increase to the point that he was missing many lessons. Our son was seen by his doctor several times and the doctor recommended in writing to stop STKD given that this level of worry and anxiety was not at a healthy level given the resurgence of OCD behaviors. We wrote a letter with our concerns, citing their own claim posted in their website, "However we understand we do not live in a perfect world and sometimes we try our best to work with people", when referring to canceling contracts. The owner still refused to cancel our membership. I believe this information is important for other families to know. Please don't sign anything at this school. Please don't enroll your kids at this school. It does not seem that this owner is honest with his business practices and seems to lack integrity. At least, it doesn't seem the motivation is for the benefit to the child, but to keep folks locked in to unused long term contracts. more

Do not attend here! 3/27/2013

Good teachers but very bad business practices. The owner is rude and only cares about your money. He is nice if you are paying but if you have money problems he does not care. He also belittles the students during their graduation ceremony. It is shameful. That is supposed to be their special happy time, not a time to be embarrassed in front of their parents. Do not sign a contract, please! You will never get out of it.Choose the other studios for your sake and your child"s. The stars are ONLY for the instructors not the owner. more

Wow, what a great experience 1/16/2013

Seattle Tae Kwon Do is great. I don't know why nobody told me about this place sooner. I started about 13 weeks ago, over 40, fat and out of shape. The classes are fun, varied and really get results. I am no 3 waist sizes smaller, lost 30 pounds and have tons of energy. The best part is it was a fun process as I didn't focus on the workout, but just went had fun and made some great friends. This is the best decision I have ever made! more

Seattle Tae Kwon Do 1/9/2013

The teachers are good, but the business owner is shameful. I agree with those folks who warn against signing their contract. Don't do it. There are too many decent business people/instructors in the greater Seattle area to waste your time with this place. Please do your homework! And stay away from Seattle Tae Kwon Do. more

Don't Do it 12/6/2012

You have to sign a contract to attend, and if you ever try to cancel before contract is up, no matter what, they will send collection notice after you. Its too bad they don't know how to run an honest business. more

I agree with don't sign a contract!!! 11/12/2012

We too have had a set back and I'm appalled that the owner doesn't care. It's very sad because the teachers are fabulous. The owner also was non stop emailing everyone, almost to a point of being obsessive, about making sure we voted for him as the best Tae kwon do! I will never vote for him and will make sure that anyone I know will never go there! more

Do Not Sign a Contract 11/4/2012

STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. I wish I didn't have to write this review, because I think the children's instructors are great, but the business practices are horrible. DO NOT SIGN ANY CONTRACT WITH THIS BUSINESS, because if you have the misfortune of losing a job, losing health care insurance for your child, and being on the verge of losing your home, THE OWNER WILL NOT CARE. Any reputable and compassionate small business owner would negotiate a contract in such dire circumstances, but not this one. Even cable and cell phone companies allow for contract cancellations with fees - where is this business owner's compassion? I only hope I can save another family the grief we're now experiencing. more

Completely stiff and out of shape 1/31/2012

Completely stiff and out of shape, I arrived at Seattle Tae Kwon Do with no experience but a hope to fulfill a lifelong desire to learn martial arts. Three months later, I'm amazed by the strength, flexibility, endurance and skill I've developed in throwing kicks etc. Master Lee is an intense and dedicated master who has developed a martial arts curriculum that combines part strength training along with the Korean martial arts. As a person who was new to town and looking to start an exercise training regime I could continue with for years, I find the environment to be a good match for my personality and I hope to continue for years. STKD is intense but has given me opportunities to make new friends while combining strength, flexibility and martial arts training. With an open environment to all beginners I encourage those interested to try it out! But don't forget your water and be ready for a tough first few sessions! more

A great place to be 1/25/2012

Seattle Tae Kwon Do is a fine school. Great facilities, super instructors and a sound business model. I would place them somewhere between the customer service of Nordstrom and the experience of Disenyland. What a great place! more

A great school 1/12/2012

I became aquinted with Grandmaster Richards of Seattle Tae Kwon Do about 20 years ago. He is a world class Grandmaster that trained both in the U.S. but also in Korea. He is a Ph.D and is currently an 8th Degree Black Belt, which few Americans have ever achieved. I strongly recommend his school, it is top rate. Grandmaster Ha 9th Degree Black Belt more

Awesome Programs 1/11/2012

Most people know about the great martial arts at Seattle Tae Kwon Do, but the best program I have found is their Academic All-Star Program. This program intoduced in September has transformed my son from a C and D student to A's and B's. It is just one of the great programs that continually prove that Seattle Tae Kwon Do is the Best! more

A great school 1/10/2012

Since joining Seattle Tae Kwon Do six months ago, I have lost 18lbs, have more energy and am having a blast. The classes are so fun and everyone is your friend. Each day after work, I can't wait to change into my dobok (uniform) and get to class. If you want to have fun and lose weight, try Seattle Tae Kwon Do more

Absolutely Amazing 1/7/2012

I enrolled my 7 year old son at Seattle Tae Kwon Do about a year ago. The instructors are so caring and nuturing. The school is absolutely amazing and I love how well run the school is. They have a great family friendly atmopshere. The school is run by a Ph.D certified Grandmaster. So we have not only a high ranking instructor, but a well eduacated professional. You can't find anything better than Seattle Tae Kwon Do. more

I finally found the best school around 1/6/2012

Seattle Tae Kwon Do in Mountlake Terrace is a great place to enroll your child. My son attended a different place for a month, that was unprofessional, so I looked elsewere. I am happy to say I found the best school around... just a mile down the road. My son has so much fun in all the classes while his is learning self-defense and respect for others. I strongly recommend this to anyone who wants the best school around and won't settle for a lesser school. more

Amazing Place to Train 1/5/2012

Seattle Tae Kwon Do is an amazing place to train. The instructors are world class and the school is professionally run. I strongly recommend Seattle Tae Kwon Do! more

Positive Classes 11/19/2011

My 6-year-old daughter has been taking karate classes here for over a year, and we’re very happy with the program. The owner is also the one who teaches her classes. He’s great with the kids. They seem to really like him, and he handles discipline in class very well. The environment there is very positive, which I like. Besides teaching the karate moves, he also focuses on life skills like confidence, perseverance, respect, 100% effort, and they can earn badges in those areas. I’m really glad we started her in the program when we did. She gets kind of restless from sitting in school during the day, and then after karate class she’s much more peaceful. Also, the life skills part has been a great help to us in talking to her about some areas we wanted her to work on. They also talk about self-defense in a non-scary way as part of the classes. They talk about being aware of your surroundings, and what to do if a ‘bad guy’ tries to grab you. I think it does make them more aware and prepared without them really thinking too much about what exactly could happen. more
