Did you know that in order to change an alternator in a 2001 Honda, it requires that a mechanic remove the steering pump and drain the lines? I didn’t neither, so that’s why I was confused when the kid at Sears Auto on Hilltop told my wife and I that that’s what he had to do. Ok, whatever. Almost immediately after the alternator repair, we noticed a problem with our steering. We had someone other than Sears look at it and they said that Sears put in the wrong fluid. This is very bad for a Honda. We took it back, twice. Both times they flushed it and put in the correct fluid. But the damage was done. An independent mechanic said our steering system is contaminated and ruined. We filed a complaint with the Bureau of Automotive Repair and in the investigation, Sears LIED and said they did nothing to the steering pump on the initial visit. The officer said if that was so, why did they do a complete flush and fluid change for free, twice? The work supervisor at Sears said he didn’t know. To make a long story short, because all the work done on the vehicle was not listed in the paperwork, we lost our suit. Now, thanks to Sears Automotive on Hilltop, we have to replace an entire steering unit and rack and put it on our credit card, all because of an alternator. You live and learn I guess.
