Honest and caring 1/4/2012

One dental surgeon recommended jaw surgery with a more than 50% chance of losing sensation in my jaw, with no insurance overage. Another dentist wanted to remove ALL my lower teeth and substitute implants. I've heard it all. I knew I was dealing with an honest person when Dr. Marquez sat down, holding my plaster impressions, and said, ""Ah, what will we do with you?"" She laid out the options, I chose one, and I ended up with a bite that is efficient and attractive. When I smile, you can see my side teeth for the first time since I was 11 years old. The entire staff works WITH their patients, not for them. Such kind, caring people! more

Almost Took the Fear Out of Going To The Dentist 11/11/2010

Due to many years of terrible experiences with dentists I had a horrible phobia; a true fear. Just the smell of a dental office made me nauseous, and I would break out in a cold sweat. In order to get into the dentist chair I would take a valium prior to my visit. My fear caused me to neglect my teeth to the point that I needed serious dental care. I was referred to Dr. Scurria and I can tell you that from almost the first moment I met Dr. Scurria and his wonderful staff, my fear, although still alive and well, changed. They made me feel safe, well taken care of, and that they truly cared. I was known far and wide in the dental community as a “runner”; dentists could get me into the chair once, but even though I would promise to return and follow their recommendations, I never did. Dr. Scurria was firm with me yet caring. He gave me several options to choose from yet made me realize that I need to take care of my teeth before it was too late.\r The process was long and very expensive; my husband reminds me daily that my wonderful smile came at the cost of a small luxury car, but the end results were well worth it and I can’t thank Dr. Scurria and his great staff enough. The implants are so well done, that the other day in a meeting someone told me I had the most beautiful teeth and a great smile! \r I’m still a “white knuckle” patient, but Dr. Scurria will always be my dentist of choice, and when I do have to go to the dentist I arrive with a great smile. They’re my dental family.\r more

Dr. Mark Scurria 10/5/2010

I have never been a fan of going to a dentist - in fact I avoided them like the plague .. then I met the folks at Dr. Scurria's office.. it is like a revelation .. they make you feel so comfortable, welcome, and like you're part of the family .. I don't know what I ever did without them .. except go through a lot of years dreading every dental visit, a lot of sleepless nights, and bouts of anxiety attacks. Those days are gone ... Thank you Dr. Scurria, Dr. Marquez, and staff (Sandy, Mimi, Bernadette, Joannie, Tom) more

Awesome 1/24/2010

I have a series of bridges due to missing permanent teeth at birth -- a lovely thing my mom gave me! My Scurria has kept a close eye on all of them and noticed a very tiny catch on the side of one that could cause decay. My insurance didn't agree with him, but when he investigated further he felt my bridge should be replaced. He is currently in the process of doing just that, recommending my options, so I don't have to go the route of implants. Pros: Meticulous more

Mark Scurria, Dds is a great Raleigh-Durham Dentist 11/2/2009

Some have fewer dentists than wives. I’ve not been so lucky. By virtue of corporate or personal relocation, I’ve received dental care from more than ten dentists from Connecticut to Kansas. Mark Scurria, Doctor of Dental Surgery in Durham, North Carolina, is my favorite. Great dentists inspire confidence, have a certain calm patience and are as much artist as doctor. I’m a dental coward. I hate dental pain and trauma. Mark Scurria’s da Vinci-like sculpting abilities rebuilt my teeth. I wouldn’t trust anyone but Mark to do the amount of prosthodontic reconstruction we are doing. Mark taught at UNC Dental, a top school. It is easy to understand asking Mark to teach. He has a teacher’s patience, curiosity and investment in his student’s (or patient’s) understanding. You know what is happening and why. Some have many wives to find “the one”. I’ve had many dentists to find Mark Scurria, D.D.S. and am glad my friend Susan taught me a new word: prosthodontist. Pros: skills, creativity, experience, competence, proactive more

Very happy dental patient 3/9/2009

Upon moving to the Triangle area, my former dentist recommended Dr. Mark Scurria and I couldn't be any happier. His office is conveniently located right off I-40, his office staff is very friendly and do everything to meet your needs and they take their time with each patient (there is no rushing you out of the office). Dr. Scurria and his staff truly have your best interest in mind. They inform all their patients about the health of their teeth and might make a suggestion to help you or share new info with you on the latest technology. I think the coolest thing was the digital xrays. This, by far, has been the most up-to-date dental technology that I have seen and there is no waiting for images...they pop right up on the screen. Dr. Scurria is very knowledgable (he taught at UNC Dental School) and he actually listens to what you say when you are trying to express your concerns. He has a great repoir with his office staff (especially with his hygenists) and it shows as they all work together as one team...to benefit YOU, the patient. They also have bent over backwards to help fit me into an appointment after I had to cancel due to my crazy work schedule. I highly recommend Dr. Mark Scurria and his office for your dental needs. I am very pleased and you will be too! Pros: Friendly, Very knowledgable, patient comes first attitude Cons: a little expensive but so is every other dentist more

A Very Satisfied Customer 6/21/2007

I recently had 2 implants put in, which were being attached to a denture partial. The newest technology was used for the placements of these implants of which Dr. Scurria worked with Dr. Paul Kamzer. With the implants in place Dr. Scurria was able to make a new partial which fits properly. My experience with Dr. Scurra and his staff was very positive. They all are very professinal, knowledgable and give each patient 100% and more. They want a satisfied patient each and every time. I will be moving out of state soon and would come back to have Dr. Scurria do my future dental work. This is a office where you can walk away with the comfort feeling of having a BIG SMILE you are proud of and want to show it off. If you are looking for a dentist who has your best interest at hand and is aware of the newest technology, call Dr. Scurria's office. You will glad you did, I know I am. Pros: Easy access to Dr. Scurria's office, pleasant surroundings and a well trained staff Cons: I do not have any more

I got my smile back! 1/24/2007

Dr. Mark Scurria and his dedicated staff made an uncomfortable situation easy. They were caring and efficient. The longest I waited to be seen was 10 minutes and that was because I was late arriving for my appointment. The office is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and qualified professionals who can operate it.\r \r I can not find words to express my happiness with the treatment I received. Dr Scurria made sure I understood all of my possibilites for treatment. He and his staff did a good job offereing options and not opinions. They never pressured me into having any work done. I am extremely estactic with the result.\r \r I thank Dr. Scurria for giving me my smile back. I am not afraid to let anyone know that I love my dentures. The problem is no one knows that my teeth aren't real...that's how good this man is. If you are looking for a caring and competent dentist, visit Dr. Mark Scurria. You will be glad you did; I am. Cons: A little expensive but which dentist isn't more

Friendy Staff, Good Service 1/21/2004

I had the crown of a dental implant done at Dr. Scurria's office. He was very knowledgable, professional, and highly competent. He also diagnosed me with bruxism (teeth grinding) and helped me get a nightguard. My teeth had evidence of bruxism for years, yet no other dentist noticed the microfractures and scored marks on the sides of my teeth. He was also on faculty at the UNC School of Dentistry. I was very pleased to find someone who was competent enough to train other dentists! Downsides? Dental work isn't cheap, but they take credit cards. The location in RTP isn't terribly convenient, unless you live near there or work near there. But it's still relatively convenient to most of Chapel Hill and Durham. Pros: Good parking, Convenient to RTP, Friendly staff more
