Bad taste in my mouth from the beginning 3/4/2011

We were seated smack dab in the very center of the restaurant in what felt more like a service lane than a dining table. We ordered appetitizers, and 2 of the evening's specials; petite filet entree, and grilled fish that was promised to be deboned tableside - according to the waiter who offered the specials to not just our table but also to the table next to us in tandem. When we were about to be served, we were told that the grilled fish special would be prepared in the kitchen instead of tableside because they couldn't fit the cart into our aisle. I expressed my disappointment to.... no one because the waiter rushed away and disappeared before he could hear my comment. Shortly after we were served and ate, our check was presented, then we were invited to watch a fish be deboned 2 tables away from us, which we both found to be an offensive and rude offer. The food may have been flavorful but it was completely deminished by the service and atmosphere. Actually, the fish was dry and chewy. We felt like they chose greed over customer care, because they jammed us into the only remining space and shared our service with neighboring tables. Perhaps they were trying to make us feel like we were being served family-style? I didn't get it. We have dinner at least twice a month in Collingswood and have always enjoyed our experience until tonight. We won't be returning to Sapori. more

awesome gnocci! 2/18/2011

I've been there twice in the past few months - both times I ordered the same dish, gnocci. Very good! and the leftovers were still good the next day. Small cozy place with great ambiance and service. Make reservations. ... I didn't either time and they were gracious and sat us but the place fills up fast. more

Wonderful Place 4/9/2008

The food is amazing! Best Italian food since I've been to Italy. The pasta was fresh, the service was great and the atmosphere was nice. It brought back great memories of my trip to Italy. There are a lot of great Italian places in the Philly/SJ area and this one I highly recommend. Pros: Authentic Italian food, Friendly service more

Fantastic!! 11/2/2006

My husband and I just moved to the area, and tried Sapori on a whim driving by. What a find! The food is fantastic, the specials even better, and the service is impeccable! Everything about this place is great, you will definitely be happy you tried it. And being a BYOB, the prices are excellent as well. Try it, I assure you won't regret it Pros: everything Cons: sound can echo a little with the high ceilings more

seafood wasn't fresh 7/8/2005

The waitress and chef kept triyng to convince me that swordfish IS supposed to taste fishy! Disappointing. Would not go back. more

Pasta, pasta, pasta! 5/15/2005

I go almost every sunday with my parents and brother for a nice italian sunday dinner to catch up on things. The restaurant is rather small, but it sends good vibes, and the staff makes you fell comfortable right away. The penne marinara is the best I have tasted in a long time, other than in Italy when I was growing up. If you feel like something light and refreshing, I would suggest the following course; house salad, penne marinara, and chocolate mousse in a pyramid shape, and to top it off a peach iced tea. That meal will leave you with no empty stomach, and a good feeling when you depart from this wonderful restaurant. Pros: service, not over-crowded, environment Cons: may get spoiled more

That's Sapori! 1/19/2005

From the time you enter this welcoming BYO located on the other end of collingswood's growing strip you feel at home. Owner/chef Franco Lombardo comes to the table with recommendations ,and cello eventually, that make ordering simple from apps., to dinner, to desert n expresso. Bring a nice bottle of cab. or sav. blanc and you cant go wrong. The fare is real southern italian, not your average spagetti and meatball throwdown. Very comparable to Il cantuccio of northern liberties. Rumor has it that he had a hand in that too! I eat a ton of italian, out and in, and Sapori is a place that you can count on for something great. So far! Im in heights so it saves me $3.00 a shot automatically as well. Pros: reasonable more

No spaghetti and meatballs thank god 8/29/2004

We ordered the Cotoletta di Calamari and The fig and fennel salad. It was totally different and scrumptious, breaded and pan seared it had a meaty texture and true flavor of the sea. The salad had true sicilian influences with figs and orange segments, fennel and gorgonzola cheese, very well balanced flavors we'd order both appetizers again. We didn't want to eat pasta but at the moment of ordering the owner came out to greet us and suggested we split a portion of his hometown pasta appropriately called Tagliatelle alla Siciliana, we conceded and were delighted that we had, homemade ribbons of pasta enveloped in a sauce so bursting with flavors we had never experienced before in Italian restaurant in America, swordfish and cherry tomatoes, red peppers and mint! Our main course we opted for the whole fish, Orata, Franco filleted the fish for us table side it was fantastic. Pros: easy parking, impeccable service, owner operated more
