2 Bad experiences - no more 7/8/2010

I had not tried this restaurant though it has been open for some time. A few weeks ago, my wife and I decided to try something different, so we went to Coyote Sams. During our first visit, we noticed the service was rather poor (no silverware, slow to refill drinks, incomplete food order) and we overheard a waitress complaining to other customers that they don't have assigned tables...so each table is up for grabs according to her. We were seated facing the West windows and were blinded by the 7-8:00 sun. There were no shades or blinds on the windows. I noticed other customers having to scoot around to avoid being blinded. This place has been opened for a couple of years...and NO blinds??? The excessively bright sunlight did reveal an extreme amount of dust on the wooden booths and cob webs....uggg. The food on this visit was good and actually good enough that we thought we would return...but sit somewhere else !! Our second visit was 2-3 weeks later. Service hadn't changed, but our opinion did abruptly when I was served a salad with a small 1/4"" long grasshopper laying dead under the honey-mustard dressing. All the waitress could say was.... ""oh"". No manager came, no apology came, no excuse even came. Just ""OH"". The remainder of the food didn't seem up to caliber compared to our previous visit, but finding dead bugs in food may have effected our appetite. Needless to say - we will not return. Pros: rustic decor Cons: service, food, atmosphere more

Rude 11/30/2009

Set up for a rehearsal dinner at this restaurant. The management was extremely rude. It was a horrible experience. They really need to get a new manager. She could barely tear herself away from the TV to answer questions. I will never be back to eat at this restaurant. If you want a nice rehearsal dinner don’t go to this restaurant. Pros: Zero Cons: Owners/Management more

Excellent Restaurant!!! 11/12/2009

Great atmosphere & great food! I would recommend this place to anyone looking for good all around quality. Texas Monthly wrote a great article about this restaurant, after eating there themselves several times. I will copy and paste their review from their magazine below. I personally like restaurants that are family owned and not a chain. This is a place you can go and the owners are actually there. If you eat there be sure to take a tour of every room including the nice patio with the firepit and waterfall and the bar which is very interesting with all of the history on the walls. No other place like it in Tyler. I've been going to this restaurant since they opened last Summer and everything on the menu is excellent!\r \r Texas Monthly review from January 2009: This new bar and grill in Tyler is a welcome departure from the national chains popping up on every corner. A wonderful study in contradictions, Coyote Sam’s atmosphere is hunting-lodge-meets-creek-side-cafe, its menu eclectic-barbecue-joint-meets-California-trattoria. On back-to-back visits (we really like this place), we relished a smoky prime rib sandwich, a generous portion of barbecued beef tucked into grilled sourdough bread, and a walnut-crusted salmon in a lemony butter sauce. We did not regret indulging in the Texas Cannonball, a softball-size scoop of cinnamon ice cream rolled in Oreo cookie crumbs. Bar.\r \r Enough said. This should tell you more than enough to know you need to try it!!!\r Pros: Great Food & Atmosphere Cons: If you don't try it you will miss out! more
