I've lived in Oxnard for twenty years, and et plenty at Sal's. Even when he was alive, I was never very impressed with the food in his joint. Having grown up in El Paso, eating there seemed like a very whitewashed affair. Their fajitas were decent, the beans and rice run-of-the-mill, and the chile colorado dry and powdery. I've heard that since Sal's death it's gone downhill, which only decides me further to avoid the place. I live in west Ventura, and have these wonderful little down-home restaurants which, while not fancy, dish up great food at much better prices. more

We Miss Sal-Avoid this place! 3/7/2008

This restaurant used to be loved my thousands. And since Big Sal died its gone in the toliet. Yes having a great street appeal and inside apperance is nice but it is not everything. Sal knew good food and he knew that looks didn't make the food taste any better. I would have no problem paying for a good looking place if the food was half decent. Pros: Nice apperance from the street nice inside as well Cons: all else is awful more

I have been going to Sals all my life. And you always knew what you were going to get. Good food at a good price. Sals was never great food, but it was NEVER bad either. Pros: None that I can see. Avoid this place. Cons: Poor Food. Poor Service. more

Great Food & not expensive 5/7/2006

Great Authentic Mexican Food! From the Chips & Salsa, to entrees, Sal's is the Best in Ventura County. The Big Burrito is Huge (about 1 ft long) and loaded w/meat, etc. You can't go wrong w/this place for food and value on a budget. Pros: Food, Service, Price more
