What an awful place! 9/3/2017

If I could have given a minus rating, that would have been my rating for that place: the sticky tables and obvious thick layers of dust all over around. They have no clue of even how to make a real tea!!! They have a selection to choose from, but what they've brought, it was not a tea at all. They put a tea spoon of lose tea in a bag (that is ridiculous for a fine tea) and put it in a metal (unacceptable!) pot, filled it with a barely warm water! A ceramic tea pot must be filled with just boiled water and get it covered with thick cloths for a few minutes!!! Do they have any clue of how to make tea?!!!!!! They don't know how to make any tea. Period. No taste, no smell, just a frustration from their so-called "tea." I won't ever be there. Period. more

Runcible Spoon 12/22/2005

This is my favorite restaraunt in Bloomington. The food is delicious and it's easy to find a selection that is healthy and actually tastes good. The Spoon is best known for its breakfasts, but I think the dinner menu is also worthy of praise. Service is relatively prompt, but get there early, the place is kind of small and fills up fast. Also, the coffee is wonderful, be sure to give it a try. more

Love it 9/18/2005

The Spoon has been one of my favorite places since the seventies when I was a kid. They have and have always had great coffee. The fish in the bathroom and outside in the fountain are beautiful. Their breakfast is awesome too. My favorite there is the pancakes. They are huge, cheap, and especially good when you have them add fruit. What they have varies but they usually have bananas, bluberries, blackberries or rasberries and others. They use really good pure maple syrup too. They have great homefries too. And my dad always get the eggs benedict. It's pretty good, but the hollandaise is a little too bland for me. more

Great food, comfortable atmosphere 8/23/2005

The Runcible Spoon, first and foremost, serves an excellent breakfast, with entrées ranging from loaded omeletes to an order of sausage or excellent apple-smoked bacon. The lunch and dinner menus are smaller but offer some treats--the strip streak is a steal for $13, and the Black Russian, served with potatoes, makes a filling lunch for $4. The creamy tomato soup is a warming respite from the cold in the winter and is quite delicious. The Spoon also serves a variety of coffee drinks and serves some beer and wine. The atmosphere is also unique--you can normally seat yourself, and one need only inquire inside for service outside. There are an assortment of older books on shelves on the main floor, and you can browse and read them as well. The bathroom is also notable, as the tub has been converted to an aquarium, which is home to a few goldfish. Most entrées range are about $4-$10, appetizers and soups $1-$4. Breakfast is usually served at least until dinner, though sometimes it is served all day. more
