I'm very happy with the service I received and the price I paid. I called Roto-Rooter, along with half a dozen other Boston-area plumbers, on a Tuesday night about a clogged kitchen sink. Roto-Rooter was one of only two that answered the phone at night, while one other called me back that night but was not able to help. They agreed to come to my home on Wednesday morning. \r

Although the plumber was late on Wednesday, his office called me twice to assure me that they hadn't forgotten about me. When he arrived, Jeffrey Woodward was very polite and got right to business. He told me that the job was going to cost $377, which I thought was high. I explained that another business had quoted the job at $150 - $250 over the phone and also waived their travel-time fee when I told them Roto-Rooter gives free in-person estimates. Mr. Woodward seemed understanding and said I could go with the other plumber if I wished, but offered to try a trick first that would only cost $145. Well, his trick worked. Yey! He also gave me some advice about how to avoid another clog. \r

Then, I mentioned that I also had a clogged toilet and asked if he could take a look at that. He checked it out and said it would be another $190 to fix that. When I told him I couldn't afford it and I would just leave it clogged, he offered to try plunging it for me. He successfully unclogged the toilet (and discovered a missing toddler toy) and charged me NOTHING for his effort. \r

Considering how helpful Mr. Woodward was and some kind words he offered as he left my home, I feel thankful that he treated me like a person and not just a job. I hope I don't need a plumber again any time soon, but I know who I'll call if I do.\r
