Best Restaurant in Pittsburgh, hands down 7/20/2011

People who review on here are complete and total idiots. This place has the best food in Pittsburgh, hands down. The service is more than adequate - if you want your waiter to be your best friend, then you are a pathetic loser who needs to find friends. If you want to sit around and chat, a restaurant is not the place to do it! This is a great place if you actually like restaurants - go in, sit down (there is never more than a five or ten minute wait, even on the busiest nights, but they do seat people based on tables that are available and not who's been waiting longest - so if you're a party of 2 and a table for 4 opens up, a party of 4 will get it even if they come in after you - this is called smart seating, not discrimination), eat, pay, and leave. Those girls who ordered the bubble tea and took up a table are morons - it's a RESTAURANT. You can't just take up a table and order nothing but drinks. Applebee's doesn't sit you at a table and then just let you order a soda and nothing else. Basically, don't listen to the other reviews here - if these people came into my restaurant, I would chase them out and ban them from ever returning. This place is great for people who aren't idiots. more

Terrible Service. Good for take-out only. 5/2/2010

I'm asian, so is one of my ex-co-workers, and we used to trade stories of terrible services we received at this place. My ex-co-worker has a white boyfriend, and they sworn that they got treated terribly because they are a mixed couple. I re-assured them that no, they are rude to everyone here. Also, I don't agree that a good authentic taiwanese restaurant is okay to have bad service. I am from Taiwan, and if they treat their customers like this in Taiwan, they will get a lot of ""overturned"" tables from angry customers. The wait staff in Taiwan may not be overly cheery or chatty. But they are not rude. I have NEVER been treated so badly when I was in Taiwan as in Rose Tea Cafe. It is a shame really. Good food, but such terrible, rude and hostile wait staff at Rose Tea Cafe. Even the owners are rude. My recommendation: Get your food to-go. But don't sit-down here. Because you will more likely than not get a terrible service, and left angry. And you might start considering what some Taiwanese would say ""overturn"" the table!! Pros: Decent Food Cons: Terrible Service! more

Eat here if you like abuse... 3/15/2010

Here's my dinner last night at Rose Tea Cafe in Squirrel Hill: \r \r My fork had some kind of taiwanese food scum on it when it was placed on the table. When I brought it to the waiters attention he looked at me with annoyance, grabbed the fork and ran back to the kitchen without a word.\r \r I proceed to take out my chop sticks, which looked like they've been demolished by termites. Literally--splintered beyond belief. Can I get a frickin' utensil in this place? They ask us to move tables to accomdate a party of 4 (we're only 3) we do it despite the rocky start. No ""Thank You.""\r \r We order appetizers. Waiter checks on us 4 times to get our meal order but we're not ready (Pushy McPusherson). 30 minutes later...still no appetizers. We order dinner. A group of Asian patrons that took our larger table gets served dinner before we get appetizers. WTF? Dinner comes. We ask about the appetizers. Ooops...they forgot. Waiter scurries back to put in our order. LATE.\r \r We eat dinner. Drinks are unfilled. Waiter is rude. As we're sitting and talking after eating the waiter hurls the check in front of us. Rushing (Pushy McPusherson). We pay and then continue talking. The waiter comes up to us and says that he needs our table now for other customers. We're shocked.\r \r We look at each other incredulously. Grab the measly tip we were ""generously"" going to leave--leaving only a few coins left on the table. We walk out in disbelief. The rude waiter chases us down and informs us ""you didn't leave any tip."" We explain the obvious and walk out. With explosive anger, and distinct teenage angst, he THROWS the COINS at US!!!!\r \r This is not an exaggeration. We got chased out the door with metal flying at our backs. They should change the name to the house of the flying metal. Rose Tea Cafe.. Fail. Do not eat there.\r \r If you do, bring body armor. Unbelievable. Pros: Food is good, portions are large Cons: Rude, Violent, dangerous, poor service more

DO NOT EAT HERE 3/21/2009

Rose Tea Cafe in squirrel hill has the absolutely worst customer service i have ever experienced. There one woman there who is the only one who speaks decent english and she feels she can dictate who gets to sit down at a table and who doesn't regardless of when you arrive... there food all contains MSG and comes in very small portions for the price... i have nothing good to say about this place... Pros: NOTHING Cons: MSG, PRICES, EXTREMELY RUDE more

Great Chinese and Taiwanese food 10/20/2008

Great food, try the BUBBLE TEA!!! 10/4/2008

I love the Rose Tea Cafe. It's a really cute traditional Taiwanese restaurant that serves all kind of Asian cuisine. Each meal is definently big enough for two people, as they bring the entree and rice seperately and they give you more than enough food. Their egg rolls are delicious, and I recommend the Taiwanese Chunk Chicken (chicken chunks with tons of garlic cloves, red peppers, and other deliciousness). But the main reason I go there is for the Bubble Tea. It's perfectly fantastic!! They have soooo many flavors (I recommend the apple green tea), and it's the best bubble tea I've ever had. Pros: DELICIOUS food, PEFECT bubble tea!!! YUMMY!!! Cons: Never any parking (like all of Squirell Hill)... more

excellent 8/6/2008

If you're interested in trying some authentic Taiwanese food, give this place a try. The specialty drinks, smoothies, and bubble teas that they make here are delicious. I've never had a problem with the service, as the other reviewer suggests - they are very polite and attentive, but there is limited space in here, so it's understandable if they don't want you hanging out for a half an hour while other people are waiting to sit. I try to order something different each time I come here, and I've liked everything so far. Pros: excellent food more
