Best

They say this place is good and peoples favorite so I tried It on my first day in Detroit, and they were right. this place is like heaven because of their food and service.

Worst

I have had some good dinners here. I don't know how much of a "secret" Roma Cafe is after over 100 years of service, but if it is, they have a serious P.R. problem. I find the ser...

Was I there on an off day? 3/11/2004

The Roma meal I had would not qualify it for Best Italian by a long shot. My veal dish was a commercially-prepared veal-like chunk. Reminded me of the "fused" chicken at Wendy's. I liked the atmosphere, but would not order an Italian dish were I to go back. Pros: Downtown, Atmosphere Cons: , Inept, sleazy waiter more

Big Portions 3/7/2004

The Roma has a reputation, for giving good size portions of food. Friendly Waiters ,and a home like atmosphere, make it a good place, to meet old friends and new. more

must try 7/8/2003

Roma is italian dining at is most pure. The ingredients are fresh the food is good , classical italian food. some other reveiws may say it is cramped, or the food is overdone, but it is a place with atmoshpere. I've took freinds and family there never any complaints about space or food being overcooked. As for the wait staff , they are well informed, groomed and the utmost professional. Each waiter mixes their antipasta salad differently, but it is always wonderful. A good time had by all, everytime. you just need to know good food when you see it Pros: food & wine, parking, staff more

Incredible! 5/30/2003

More expensive than your average Italian restaurant, but well worth it. Quite possibly the best Italian restaurant in the Detroit area! Wide variety of entrees from your standard pasta dishes, to a number of veal dishes, polenta, and even the unusual such as sweetbreads. Excellent minestrone and house salad. Top notch wait staff - very prompt and informative about the menu and wine selections. Pros: Excellent Variety, Great Atmosphere, Quality Service Cons: Expensive more

average 12/4/2002

I have taken clients there a few times and had decent service but the food was a litle old hat. The pastas were always over cooked and unexciting. more

Not So Secret 12/2/2002

I have had some good dinners here. I don't know how much of a "secret" Roma Cafe is after over 100 years of service, but if it is, they have a serious P.R. problem. I find the service here very good and the food about average. I would eat there if I was in the area for other reasons. more

Time warp 9/13/2002

Like a blast from the past. I know this place is the favorite of many people but it's time to wake up, it's a new millenium. There are so many exciting things happening in Italy's culinary world today besides tomato sauce. The war is over but the food remains the same. more

Historic and appetizing 8/8/2002

This place has it all, great food, great history, and great service. If you've never visited Detroits oldest resturant then you should kick yourself. Leave the suburbs for an evening and treat yourself to authentic Italian!!! My wife, 1yr son, and I made an afternoon of the Eastern market then off to the Roma for lunch - never even considered dinner after the healthy lunch portions. more

VIVA ITALY 8/7/2002

I love the atmosphere, love the male waiters and LOVE the food! Prompt service and generous portions! more

bella figura!!! 8/6/2002

Tucked away in the Eastern Market district, it was a very pleasant surprise. The food was delicious and the service was with a smile. It makes you feel like you're in one of those little Italian restaurants in Italy-real Italy-not tourist Italy; that's all dressed up to welcome you, her honered guest with her best. more

Yum Yum 8/2/2002

The best lasagna I ever had! The couple we went with are regulars, so we got a table right away. I would recommend that everyone try this restaurant, there isn't a bad thing on the menu and the service is amazing! more
