We Loved It! 6/14/2007

While in Half Moon Bay for our anniversary, we tried 4 restaurants. Rogue Chefs was by far the best. It was very fun. We ate at the chefs table where the master chef prepared our dinner right before our eyes and recommended wine to go with each. He was so friendly. It was like being at his house and getting a special treat dinner. He didn't even know what would be for dessert until later when we watched him make chocolate flourless cakes. No recipes here. The menu offers 3 or 5 courses. I had scallop fried rice, spinach salad with strawberries and a dressing he whipped up just before serving, tomato risotto and corn meal covered pork chop. My husband had Flat Iron steak with Blackberry Chocolate sauce as his main dish. The evening was absolutely wonderful. Thanks for a fabulous anniversary. Pros: Excellent food, extensive wine, personlized service Cons: We were so full! more

Exceptional! 5/5/2006

I stayed in Half Moon Bay all week and didn't expect much from a small town; however, Rogue Chefs changed my perception. The food and its presentation were exceptional, highly comparable to the fancy restaurants in San Francisco. Had the filet mignon and pork paillard and both were succulent and flavorful...tasty sauce! The chocolate whiskey tort with banana and caramel was just unforgettable. Chef even gave me some tips on cooking. Will go there everytime I'm in Half Moon Bay. Pros: Great food, Cozy ambience Cons: pricey, but worth it more

I had 3 courses, well presented, (truly local fresh) sat at Chefs Table saw my entree; being made right in front of me,,, had the short ribs with fennel and chocolate sauce...excellent Wine list was decent, and you can taste many varietals 2 oz pours Pros: great size , wine list 2 oz pour Cons: one bathroom more

Fabulous flavors and ambiance 3/30/2006

Friendly, professional, and prompt service. A relaxed environment yet has the ambiance of an upscale restaurant, a real find in the small town of Half Moon Bay. An amazing wine list and knowledgable staff to offer advice when pairing wine with your meal. The food....melding and complemetary flavors, succulent and tender cuts of meat, beautiful presentations of both small and entree plates. My congratulations to the chef and owner for introducing his creativity and talent to the coast. more

Unprepared on Valentine's Day 2/15/2006

For $80 per head with a wine pairing on Valentine's Day, one would expect great presentation and food. Not so. The average food selections were made even more ordinary when the wine glasses arrived and were just placed in front of us - what was I drinking, why with this dish, etc? This place is supposed to be for culinary fans to be witness to outstanding food from outstanding chefs. However, what we got was a pre-fixe menu with an unprepared cast, leaving the diner to simply just eat. We asked if there was anything that we could pick on before the courses arrive, perhaps some bread? The server said ""normally we have bread, but not tonight"". I don't not think they stack up against the other restaurants in HMB, let alone the classic culinary experience it claims to be. Pros: Good concept, Atmosphere more
