This location of Red's Grill is located at the corner of Mason Road and FM 1093. It's in a stip mall and right now there isn't really anything else in the strip mall. I first heard about Red's Grill from my parents. They had gotten a "buy one get one free" coupon in the mail and so they decided to try it out. They kept raving about how good it was, so we decided to check it out ourselves.
My understanding is that they have a location in Richmond, TX that has been around for awhile. In reading through the history on the back of the menu, it sounds like their family started a grocery business in the area in 1919, so they have a long-established reputation in this area.
The location is very nice and clean. There are about 10-15 tables and you seat yourself. There are flat screen TVs up on the walls and they were on a sports channel while we were there. The menu is prominently displayed above the counter and you place your order and then your food is "cooked to order." They have an extensive menu including several different kinds of hamburgers and sandwiches. They also have "specialty" items which include things like fried shrimp, chicken strips, and philly cheesesteaks. You can also order soups, salads, or baked potatoes. Side items include everything from your standard fries and onion rings to fried mushrooms and stuffed jalapenos. They offer "self serve" fountain drinks and I have also heard that they make their own version of root beer, black cherry, and lemonade which I would love to try sometime.
The prices are very reasonable (the most expensive burger is $4.50) and the portions are generous. I ordered the mushroom swiss burger and I can honestly say that it was one of the best that I have ever had! At some places, you get a rubbery piece of swiss cheese with some mushrooms thrown on top. Here the cheese and mushrooms were melted together, the burger was cooked perfectly, and it was delicious! My husband got a bacon cheeseburger and he was also very pleased. We ordered a side of chili cheese fries and the chili was tasty and the fries were very good and have an additional seasoning on them (so they would be just as good plain).
Their "kiddie" meals include pretty standard choices (hamburger, cheeseburger, hot dog, chicken strips, grilled cheese, etc.) and it is $3.50 for the entree, fries, and a cookie (these are very yummy and taste like they are made from scratch). The portions for the kiddie meals are generous and we took half of my daughter's home with us.
The service here was outstanding! The cashier (who is the wife of the owner) was very friendly and outgoing and seemed willing to go above and beyond to make us happy. She even brought our food out to us and asked us several times if we needed anything else.
They are open Monday-Saturday and their hours are 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and 5 p.m.-9 p.m. We got there around 1:30 p.m. on the day that we went and they were very kind and let us take our time eating (as compared to other places that would have just rushed us out the door!) You can "dine in" or "carry out" and you can also call orders in.
If you're looking for a great family place, great burgers, and reasonable prices, check out Red's Grill! There is a "buy one get one free" coupon in the Entertainment book if you have one (it says "Richmond" but they will also honor it at this location).
