Girlfriend and I went there for New Years Eve. Abbreviated NYE menu where they overpriced everything (from the already overpriced everyday menu)...possibly priced this high as only a few (mistakenly) made reservations for the evening. Since there were no salads included with the dinner and the only options were $10.00 salads rather than the standard $4.00 house salad, we opted for the $12.00 calamari/shrimp appetizer. Blah. Breading falling off of calamari. HUGE ?tentacles? fried along with small rings = raw squid.
On to the entrees?I paid $29 for a New York Strip with a twice baked potato?this ain?t Mortens, I?ll tell you that. Ordered medium rare, came out a little overdone ? not terrible but not what you?d expect for the cost. Also, not a great cut you'd expect a thirty dollar steak to be. Should have been $17.00. My girlfriend ordered the ?Rosemary? chicken dish that was burnt and had no trace of rosemary anywhere. ANYWHERE! Parsley, but no rosemary. The chicken was dry as I witnessed her attempt to saw through it with a steak knife. They brought her another which was only a little better?still dry but at least cut-able. $22.00 for dry chicken and a twice baked potato? Should have been an $10.00 dish.
I don?t know who they?re trying to fool here but this is NOT upscale dining. Maybe they should can the ?chef? and just serve burgers and nachos with their beer (which is good, by the way). My last meal of 2007 was unpleasant to say the least?I resolve to NEVER AGAIN eat at the Red Star...at least I know ONE New Years resolution that I?ll be able to keep this year!!! Do yourselves a favor and stop by the Red Star for a pint before going out to a REAL restaurant for dinner.
I would have been better off going to Applebee's (no offense to Applebee's)...this place is a FARCE.
Pros: Decent Beer
Cons: Lousy Food
