I'm happy to say I passed my road test and certainly credit Mike with helping me reach that goal. I appreciated that Mike was always on time for appointments and that he offered good pointers on how to be a thoughtful and safe driver. However, I must qualify my recommendation. Mike often made derisive remarks about people based on their physical appearance or other characteristics and would occasionally seek to engage in personal conversation on sensitive topics like race/ethnicity, sex, and political leanings. Though he said these things in a light-hearted way, it was nevertheless inappropriate and made me wonder what he might say about me if I were not in earshot.\r

Many times I had to remind myself that I had a larger goal in mind--that of getting my license--and that getting into any back-and-forth with Mike regarding his ""observations"" was not worth it. Certainly his beliefs and prejudices were long-held and would not be changed by me.\r

Also, as several others mentioned, generally a student would drive to pick you up as a part of their lesson and then you'd take over the wheel--with the other student in back--and drive that person back to their location. You would also drive to Mike's next student. That person would then drive you back to your location. While I didn't necessarily mind having another student in the car, there were times when I could tell my presence made a nervous learning driver even more nervous. I also think this practice can keep students from asking questions freely. Notably, because you end your lesson at the next student's location, it can take upwards of 15 minutes for you to be returned to your location, so you should budget at least an hour for a lesson even though you will only drive for 45 minutes.\r

Hopefully this is helpful.
