My husband and I moved across country back in 2003, and we could not take our two Red-eared sliders with us. We did some research as to where we could place them, where they would be happy. We were referred to Rancho De Las Palmas, in Moorpark. Here they offer a BEAUTIFUL place for weddings, corporate meetings, etc. But they also offer a turtle rescue sanctuary, which contains several species of birds and other wildlife as well.
we made an appointment to bring in our turtles. The lady who runs the place (which is also a private estate) gave us a brief tour of their grounds, before walking us down to the huge pond. We could see dozens of turtles swimming to the little bank, obviously thinking it was meal time. It was so neat! We put our turtles into the water with them (after a quick goodbye), and watched them swim away. The lady said we could come back and visit any time, should we wish to.
I miss them a lot, but I know they're in a good place. And much happier than they would be here, in an aquarium.
