Worst Sushi experience ever! 3/9/2009

If this is a four star restaurant then someone should kick me in the face. I sat at my table for over 20 minutes and didn't get so much as a glance from the waitress, or a glass of water. It was Sunday evening and the place was half empty, I can't comment on the food because they never got around to serving me and my guests. We walked out after waiting a half hour for someone to notice us. The interior decor is out dated and and stereotypical, I'm surprised they didn't have a karaoke machine, and a samurai hanging out at the bar. If your not into the frat boy scene don't go here. Skip this joint for sure. Pros: The weather was nice outside Cons: this place is stale, with terrible service more

Was still good for bad Service 5/23/2008

If you are a stickler for service this may not be your cup of tea. I go frequently to Ra and i have disliked all my service. Slow, rude, and unattentive. I have gone about 12 times in the past 3 months and had many of different people but they wher all the same. The reason i still go their is that I LOVE their food. I just cant help it. No madder how long it takes i still want it. I love all of their rolls (and im picky). I love their appitizers. So i will bear the bad service just so i can eart another Las Vegas Roll. more

GORGEOUS staff+ Slow service= Good for the eyes, not for the stomach... 1/23/2008

The place is uber hip and that is an attraction. The staff is smoking hot- guys as well as dolls. The ambience is very cool and you can't help but feel like you are in the place to be. Unfortunately, the service in the place is AWFUL. Great looking servers who can't get anything right, or out on time is a shame. None of the sushi chefs are Japanese, let alone Asian. They work hard and do their best, but it simply is not sushi. The hot foods are bland and over sauced which is a shame as some of the menu items looked good on paper. Did I mention the staff is gorgeous? Well, by this point in your meal you don't care because the experience has travelled downhill at tremendous speed. Not to mention the crowd is pretty hot too. The manager heard several complaints including mine and offered my guest and I free drink coupons and free lunch coupons. Great, except I live in NYC!!! I told him I lived in NYC and that comping was not necessary. He said it was the least he could do?!?! So, the girls at the hotel got free drinks and lunches- I hope lunch service is faster. Pros: Gorgeous staff, nice ambience, location. Cons: Service, service, service more

Best Happy Hour 11/26/2007

After a long hard day at work, all I wanted to do was kick back with my friends, eat some great sushi and slam some sake bombers. Well mission accomplished! The atmosphere was upbeat and kicking; the sushi was the freshest I have had in Scottsdale in a very long time. Their unique rolls kept me entertained with an impressive bite every time. I have a soft spot for Sake and their own personal brand is excellent. I would recommend this to anyone who has a craving for sushi, fun, and great happy hour prices. Pros: Great Patio more

Great Experience 8/26/2007

I have nothing but good things to say about our experience at Ra last night. We only ordered drinks and a few rolls but our waitress was so attentive and thoughtful. The rolls we chose were delicious. The drinks were great too! After this experience I would definitely recommend Ra. Pros: Delicious sushi, great service Cons: Clientele was super hip more

Not for the suchi connoisseur 4/18/2007

Good for the hip crowd or someone that is not too picky about their suchi. Expensive for what it is but again hip. more

Average 1/15/2007

One visit only. Not bad, just unremarkable. Not a good sign when the server was so uniformed about basic sushi information. (Never heard of bonito?) Also not a good sign when you ask a chef what fish is the best today and he casually says ""everything"". When pressed he said the hamachi, which was fine but a little bland. Rice texture was a slightly hardened, as if it had been around a while. Took way too long even though there were four chefs behind the counter. Bento boxes were very good; my sister loved the shrimp tempura. Miso soup average; green tea too strong. The scallop temaki was *much* too spicy; spicy can be good but this horrlibly overpowered the delicate scallops. Obviously a place designed to be upscale and hip rather than focused on the food. Pros: Nothing in particular more

Ra has lost it's imaginative style. The most recent time I dined their...the sushi was ""washed out"" (no flavor)....I was a long time patron, but now I prefer North Scottsdales- Blue Wasabi more

Do you know good Sushi? 2/18/2006

If you know good sushi, don't go to RA - you will only be disappointed. The rice tasted like it was cooked last week, the sushi rolls stuck together, the rice had no flavor, unevenly cut pieces, poor presentation and served ""family style"" as quoted from the uninformed waitress. But, in its defense, RA is located in Old Town Scottsdale, which caters to tourons. So if you drop $60 for sub-par sushi - your on vacation, you'll never go back. Pros: ? Cons: uninformed waitstaff, poor presentation more

The sun god would approve 6/14/2005

Never could quote figure out the name Ra, will have to ask them sometime. Several locations, all seem to be hot spots for local sushi buffs, of which I am not one, but several of my friends and family members are big fans, so I come along for the ride, and the stiffness in my face that comes from biting into some salty living thing plastered with enough wasabi so that others don't see me cringe at the taste of slimey uncooked crustaceons and fishies. Maybe I am not a big sushi fan, but there are several things I do like on the menu, and I enjoy the upbeat atmosphere here. Pros: Multiple locations, Clean nice atmosphere Cons: The whole sushi thing, Friends go here often more

Sushi 6/4/2005

Best Sushi around! Great service, large pieces of fish, great atmosphere! more

Always Enjoy 2/19/2005

My wife and I frequent RA and always enjoy the food and experience. It is a fresh fun environment with good food. The saki bombers are a perk as well. Pros: environment, food, bombers more
