Great, cheap thai food 1/19/2007

I love the place.\r Great thai food, like no other Thai restaurant I've been to in New York. And cheap. Appetizer, entree, drink, tip for $20.\r It does get crowded. I was there the other night and all tables were filled. I was seated promptly though. Service is a bit slow, but not too bad. Food is great. I especially like the picture menu. There are soooo many choices on the menu, you surely can find something you like. Pros: food, price Cons: not many cons! more

Slow service and not the ""best Thai in the city"" as everyone says 1/15/2007

I've heard a lot of good things about Sripraphai but after the dinner I had there I really can't agree. The food is good - but it is by no means the best in the city. Presentation is seriously lacking and the service needs to improve ASAP. We waited a very very long time for our 3 dishes (one came at least 20min before the other two...) and we had much difficulty in communicating with our waitresses. One waitress even had the nerve to ask us if we were ""waiting for more food"" as my family and I sat talking and digesting the meal we had just eaten... perhaps something was lost in translation but servers need to be mindful of not making their customers feel rushed. As for the food: My father and I are vegetarian and our dishes were pretty good but perhaps the dishes that people rave about so much are not (though I can't say my mom was in love with her duck dish either)... Another thing about the place is that it is CRAZY busy - thankfully the restaurant has two rooms and it seems that one is generally quieter than the other. When you walk in, head to the room on the right if you want to be able to have a peaceful meal and one that you can hear whoever you're dining with. Pros: average thai food, big restaurant (good for a large party) Cons: really slow service, noisy, poor presentation more

Truly authentic Thai 11/16/2006

I first visited Sripraphai after they opened several years ago. The dirty linoleum floors and plastic lawn chairs are gone, but it still manages to serve up some of the best and most authentic Thai food I have tried in NY (I lived in Bangkok and consider myself a fair judge of Thai authenticity). The food is preiced well enough for you to over-order and try several plates. There is also a fridge with precooked items in case you are in a rush. Highly recommend. Pros: The food is incredible. Priced really well. Cons: I wasn't very fond of the soft shelled crabs more

fresh, authentic, great value 11/15/2006

i love this place! i went for the first time almost a year ago and go back again and again. this is saying a lot since i don't even live in Queens! the staff is always great, and even though they have expanded the restaurant, the quality has not decreased in the slightest. my favorites are their duck salad, pretty much any green curry, and the steamed fish. Try to go earlier in the evening to beat the long line though. I went this past Saturday around 6:45pm and only had to wait a few minutes, so the key is to beat the prime time rush that starts at 7ish. Pros: Great food, thai iced coffee, quality Cons: there can be a long line (but it's worth it) more

Amazing Thai Food - Fresh Veggies 10/29/2006

I had gone to Sripraphai about a year ago, before renovations and had longed to return. This time I went w/ a big group. Luckily, we were able to make a reservation - not sure if they typically accept reservations, but it's a good thing we did. When we arrived, there were hordes of people outside and inside waiting for tables on a Sunday night. Almost everything we ordered was freshly prepared and just perfect. Dishes that stood out: Crispy Watercress w/ Chicken, Shrimp, and Squid (sounds weird, but is really good), Roast Duck Salad, Crispy Pork w/ Chinese Broccoli, Pork leg w/ mustard greens, and the best were the Chinese Watercress and Chinese Broccoli - so fresh and the seasoning was perfect! A dish that I wouldn't order again: Whole fried Red Snapper - this was overdone. This would probably be great steamed. The only reason I'm not giving this a higher rating was b/c they had forgotten 3 of our dishes and had to be reminded 3 times :( We were still very pleased w/ our meal (and its low price) and will definitely go back to try the rest of the menu! Pros: Authentic Thai Food - Fresh Veggies Cons: Poor service, but good attitude more

Worth every penny 9/28/2006

Being a vegetarian, I've come to appreciate Thai food as a cuisine that offers more varieties than most others. The food here was amongst the best Thai food I've tasted; since this seems to be a high-volume,low profit margin joint, there is the inevitable trade-off in efficiency- not the best service, longer waits etc.I went in just before the purported closing time, had prompt service by a cheerful chap.So NO COMPLAINTS! Would highly recommend this place for folks looking to eat good Thai without shelling out too much. more

Best Thai I ever found, very inexpensive, too bad they're closed on Wednesdays 9/3/2006

The one thing I miss most about living in NYC (and Queens) has to the this restaurant. The food was inexpensive, the staff was friendly, the taste was not watered down to meet the needs of people who cannot really tollerate spiece, the flavor was authentic and delicious, the service was fast and seating was almost always available. I have yet to find any Thai restaurant that even came close to the quality of food and service they had. For a restaurant that great the price is unbelievable! The location is a bit out of the way unless you live near the area, but it's definitely worth the ride on the 7 to get to. Pros: Great food, great quality, great service Cons: Not a good spot for a romantic date more
