Puccini's La Dolce Vita

Food was pretty tasty. Hit and miss, as far as price to portion ratio. For example, I ordered lasagna, and it seemed like quite a bit of food. My mom ordered some sort of beef & tortellini dish, which wasn't as filling. (That said, however, it was *delicious,* and tastier than the lasagna.) If you want a salad - Get the spinach salad. This house-cum-diner on Fourth Street's ""Restaurant Row"" has a huge menu of delicious Italian cuisine. Everything has been so tasty, from appetizers to dessert. Last visit there I had Carbonara alla Romana, and raved about it all week. Food here is on par with what I ate in Italy a year ago. The restaurant is never crowded, though parking is sometimes scarce. Service is excellent, the staff is always attentive and polite. If you are under age (less than 30), you will not appreciate this resturaunt. I have lived in the Bloomington area since 1994 I have never even seen children in this restaurant unless you count freshmen college kids who talk too loudly. It is a tradition for my husband & I to go to Puccini's on our birthdays, so maybe I am biased. Their wines are excellent. The veal scalipini literally melts in your mouth. And the steak , mmm, steak... well if you judge a restaurant solely by its spaghetti you probably missed the big kids menu. \r No I do not have a vested interest in the place but in my opinion the price is directly related to not just the service, but also the atmosphere, which is undeniably very romantic. This place is so romantic but the food was...eh...what I had was good (spagetti con carciofi), but any place calling itself ""Italian"" that serves over cooked pasta isn't good Italian to me. The portions were very large. The service was very attentive...almost too much. How many people does it take to deliver food? It was almost like they were trying to be more than what they were...a 5 star restaurant vs an OK Italian place in the middle of the Midwest. I'd try it again though - something else this time. more

If you are into overpriced, Puccini's is the place for you. The food is pretty good, although overall not that great. Their staff is well-trained, and will try to make you happy (Being a vegetarian, I wanted to try something other than the one vegetarian item that I liked, and they were quite accomodating.) The only thing not to miss on their menu is the pizza, which I believe is only offered for lunch. The pizza can feed two people, and it hardly costs more than any other one item on the menu.
