The Scene
This historic park commemorates the site where one of the most important accomplishments of the 19th century occured. On May 10, 1869, officials of the Central Pacific Railroad and Union Pacific Railroad met here to drive four symbolic spikes (two gold), celebrating the completion of the first transcontinental railroad. The event is re-enacted every year on the same date.
What to Do
There is an easy, flat 1-1/2 mile trail called the Big Fill Walk at Golden Spike. Visitors can also drive the six-mile auto tour.
