If I was looking to join a gym, I would avoid this place. Keep in mind this use to be a Gold's Gym which had opened in 1999. It changed ownership in late 2007 when 3 co-owners bought the gym and changed the name to Powerhouse Gym. Now there are only two co-owners because one had sold his share because he was tired of the mess that was going on. The new owners had a regional manager of Powerhouse Gym Shane Franklin come in to help them get started. Shane Franklin has a history of embezzlement of Powerhouse Gym's in Reno, NV and most recently in San Diego, Ca. There is an ongoing investigation pending in Reno on him. Google his name for more facts on this investigation. Shane had advised the new owners to charge an extra annual fee on top of membership monthly dues. It's called a club enhancement fee. The fee was supose to kick in at the start of 2009, but started at the beginning of 2008. Once the fee's started there was no warning to the members of this charge, and was not disclosed at the time in the old membership agreements. Big time law suit they had avoided. A lot of members had complained and had thought that they were being double billed. There were no letter's of apology sent to members trying to explain the mistake. The only apology they got was a free month membership once they came in to complain. If no one complained, the owners looked the other way. They lost at least 80% of the orginal Gold's gym members because of this mistake. The gym's equipment is the same since it opened in 1999 and has not been replaced. Because there are a lack of parts, you'll see a lot of out of order signs on some of the equipment. They have plenty of free weights, but some of the dumbells are missing because they don't replace them if they are damaged. The cardio eqipment are old as well, and once they breakdown, repairs are slow. Since the name change of the gym, there are less aerobics classes because they have cut staff for budgetting reasons. One would ask, how would I know so much about this gym? I was a member since 2002 and employee from 2003 to 2010. more
