Aroma and Portrait of a Bookstore have different owners 2/7/2007

Portrait of a Bookstore rents it's space from Aroma Cafe. So if a reviewer had a problem with being asked to leave a table that wouldn't have anything to do with the bookstore. I love this place. I can always find a gift for anyone and I love their birthday cards. One of the staff suggested this amazing book from a couple of years ago- We Need To Talk About Kevin- and I would never had found that book on my own. Indie's rock Pros: A really smart, nice staff and its filled with hidden gems Cons: parking is tough more

Worst customer service of all time 12/9/2006

If you want to sit and relax with friends, especially on the weekends, AVOID this place--I was there with a friend and apparently we enjoyed ourselves for too long (a whopping hour and a half) because they rudely forced us to leave, threatening to call the police if we didn't. Talk about customer service. And, don't think about going to their sister cafe, the Alcove in Los Feliz either--they have the same policy. Apparently, for these two...all they care about is how many customers they can squeeze money out of. So, if you respect yourself and care about the types of establishment you spend your money in, avoid both places. There are much better, politer, places around. Cons: Rude service more

great little place 12/31/2004

This book and gift store, at the back of the Aroma Cafe coffee house has unusual gift items for both children and adults at reasonable prices, in an addition to a good selection of books for a store so small (it's only about 300 square feet, at most). Aroma cafe has great coffe and pasteries and surprisingly for a coffee house, really good luches at reasonable prices. more
